Pocket Survival Tool rehab!

I had just recently won this PST on eBay and it arrived Saturday :woohoo: I had been wanting one of these for a long time and when I saw this one I snatched it up pretty quick :ahhh :D The overall shape of it wasn't bad :whistle: but it really needed some TLC ;)



I started by completely disassembling it :ahhh







The tools aren't in bad shape other than some rust and being pretty dirty :D The other side of the file (shown in a pic above) was worse than the side shown here ::) :D





Next, I put the pieces in a container and soaked them overnight in WD-40 :salute: after the soak I laid them out on a paper towel and started to clean each tool individually :tu:



I took some close ups of the knife, file and plier head :cheers:  It still strikes me as funny to see Japan stamped on some of the early LM parts :D









The WD-40 really helped :woohoo: after cleaning each tool I sanded and used a rust eraser on them to get any grime left that the WD-40 didn't get rid of :tu:

After that I started putting it back together :woohoo:



I tightened the tool up and tested each pivot to get it fairly well in opening and closing :salute: As seen above the handles still had some scuffs and scratches. I took a sanding block and some metal polish to finish it on out and... well the pictures can speak for themselves :dd:

Thanks Aloha :hatsoff: I do love to be able to fix and clean a tool up to very usable again :salute: I buy lots of tools second hand (as you do) and sometimes I have to do nothing and other tools require a bit more love to get back to serviceable condition :ahhh :cheers:

Wow, looks great! It's amazing what a little TLC can do.

Did you have any trouble with the knurled screws? I took apart one of my older Patent number PSTs, and I noticed half the screws were not the normal variety. They had more teeth than the Lokimobile parse tools were designed for, and it made taking them apart a total pain. Got a bit mad at myself because I eventually used the crunch and dinged the screws a tiny bit.

Thanks Bob :hatsoff: No, no problems taking it apart :salute: I have had a bit of trouble with a couple knurled screws over the years on other tools but for the most part the loki wrenches work great and make modding a much more pleasurable experience than it was before I had them :salute:

It went about as smoothly apart and together as any tool I have ever taken apart  :woohoo:
