Day 29

July 29th is a special day in our house. It is my daughter's 16th birthday,,, and it is "National Chicken Wing Day". As she has done for the last few years,,, she requested wings for her birthday dinner tonight. It brings her much joy that she shares her birthday with wing day. I sure am glad she wasn't born on liver day or something worse.

Today I toted the IKCO "Johnnie Junior" boys knife. Never had any noteworthy uses for it today,, but it was very photogenic with the wings.

GA1dad happy birthday to your daughter.  The wings looked great.  I don't know if you have any other kids, but we can all celebrate National Liver and Onions day on May 10th. >:D

Day 29

GEC #89 Fruit Knife

I definitely question the practicality of this pattern for use as a general pocket knife.  However, F&F lives up to the GEC name, I got it for what I think was a fair price, and I have to have stainless.

Finally, let’s be frank, stuff that glows in the dark is just cool.
I actually quite like this "water melon tester", and you are absolutely right about the GITD, I mean who can resist that? :tu:

Saved what is for me the best until last.
Given to me by my granddad about 50 years ago and my very first knife. It looked pretty well like this then, I’ve never sharpened it, (it’s as blunt as anything!), just scraped my name into it years ago and had ever since

Ah gigs, I remember them… maybe we’ll be allowed some again next year :dunno: currently in lockdown in Sydney so who knows

Saw them a couple of years ago at the Opera House and they played some old Joy Division stuff too, brilliant. Seeing them in Manchester has to be special :like:

Edit to original post, must’ve been 1981 I got the poster, the album had just come out and we used to hang around the record shops back in the day, saw my chance  and nabbed it. Rough Trade didn’t seem to mind, all part of the ethos back then.  Ah the joys of youth

Well, what a month it has been.  Carrying a trad for a month isn't really a huge "challenge" to me, but I might enjoy carrying a SAK again every so often.  ;)  Way, way too many fantastic knives and photos for me to individually name but rest assured I have enjoyed every single one.  I feel certain Dean would have felt the same way.

So what to carry for the last day?  Something British?  French?  No, something from the US I think (here's to you Dean).  Definitely one of my favourites; the Case Texas small jack.  8)

Day 29 (penultimate traditional knife day):

A happy task for the #23: opening a package containing the #67 Camillus that Steve added to the challenge GAW at the last minute.

This new (to me) Camillus is a real gem. I love a Stockman, I love a good Camillus, and they just don't make 'em like this any more. A real gem. Thanks, Steve!  :hatsoff:

Put the No. 9 to work cutting open a seal on a jug of milk.  I just couldn't get enough of a grip to get the thing off!  Easy work for this beauty of a knife.

Just think Barry, the curlers that put that knife together probably helt it aloft, sunbeams streaming from the factory roof and said, "One day... this will open a jug of milk"...  :D
