How's this for a cracking cricket catch
on: February 21, 2009, 02:16:39 AM
This catch happened in a Australia V New Zealand 20/20 cricket match . For the poor souls who do not no about cricket ; to catch someone out no part of you eg foot can be on/over the boundary/rope whilst you catch the ball. If Voges had not done what he did the Kiwi batsman would have been not out & got 6 runs for clearing the boundary/rope.

Not as good as John Dyson's catch V The West Indies in the 80's , but not bad.

That was quick thinking - never seen anything like that before.

Of course the Americans probably won't have a clue what happened there :D The important thing is that if he touches the "rope" (which is actually some yellow plastic in this case) whilst holding the ball, then the ball is deemed to be over the boundary. To think to throw it back in, follow it and catch it again is frankly incredible.

I used to come here a lot.

Actually, I was reminded of this whilst typing the above:

The Rules of Cricket
as Explained to a foreign visitor

You have two sides, one out in the field and one in.

Each man that's in the side that's in, goes out, and when he's out, he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out.

When they are all out the side that's out comes in and the side that's been in goes out and tries to get those coming in out.

Sometimes you get men still in and not out.

When both sides have been in and out including the not-outs, that's the end of the game.

Howzat?

... which is remarkably accurate :D

I've played Cricket a few times...not my cup of tea! I am more of a football/wrestling guy.. I was an outstanding offensive lineman in high school! I wouldn't mind trying rugby though!

Football is FOOTBALL.....only one type and that includes 22 men with a goalie, referee, striker, defenders etc etc

Anything else is something else eg American Football.

However, the ball is the wrong shape in football.  You definitely need a Rugby Ball.

The skill in a game is not kicking a ball in a predictable linear straight line but after kicking it not having a clue where its going to go  ;)

Australian Rules football as it was understood and played on campuses back in the '70's meant blood and fractures...and no whining.I figured if that's how the fellows down under played,I was very happy to have them on my side than against me.

Fine catch that, its actually been done a few times in the past. I remember when I used to play cricket and we used to practice that catch, its a lot harder than it looks :D

The best catch by far is this one, Bumbles commentary is great as usual :D ;)
