The only way I would personally want the cap lifter to be replaced with the combo tool is if they really beefed up the thickness of the combo tool when it's in that position on the knife. The combo tool, in it's current form, is often too thin when trying to use it as a flat head screwdriver in many cases.

It's good at opening bottles though!

It’s a good excuse to add a OPMT to your carry…

What is an OPMT? I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with that acronym.

I don't quite see the point in it, but any innovation is welcome, I also know myself and I know that I will buy it.
Is there any idea of the dates for the official presentation? Or maybe the news is to see how the fans react, it seems that there isn't much official information, right?

No hard date that I've heard. Probably summerish.

Honestly, I think they ditched the idea of a box cutter. The interview in which Mr. Elsener stated that it would be introduced soon is more than 1 1/2 years old. Plus, it didn't make a lot of sense in the first place: a real box cutter with replaceable blades in a SAK would be a complicated (read: expensive) niche implement. At a time when Vicorinox seems to retire everything that's niche, I for one doubt they will ever introduce such a tool in the foreseeable future.

And as to a box cutter without replaceable blades, why on earth would anyone need that? Existing SAKs offer plenty of ways to deal with boxes as is.

Cheers,

Simon

I like the box cutter. It's a non-scientific survey but of the 20 cans in my kitchen cupboards, only one requires a can opener. So percentage-wise I could see myself using a box cutter more often (Particularly the serrated part) as part of an EDC. Compared to say what I would take on a camping trip/ vacation.

However, I will concede that should you need to open cans more often then obviously the can opener is the better choice.

Does this account for the cans that have pull tabs, but the pull tabs break off before you’re able to get the can open with them?

Really? You must shop at some very middle-class places... The only ring-pull cans we have are the Heinz soups!! :D

In Australia 95% of all cans are ring pull but when you get that one that isn’t, very glad for the opener

I don't think I've ever had a ring pull on a tin fail. :o I have on drinks cans but not on food tins. However, if I did I'd probably
be in my kitchen so I'd have a dedicated can opener to hand.

My view on the box cutter is that I would see it get more use at work on a Tinker or Evolution (urban EDC)

Is Sainsbury's middle class? They couldn't re-felt my top hat when my butler asked! :D

Only 20 cans of food in ready stock? I'd need a whole day to see which cans require a can opener!

Yes, albeit the lower end and least fashionable of the middle-class places. We also shop there a fair bit, but typically pick up canned brands like Hubbard... and despite having two can openers in the kitchen, it's always quicker and more satisfying to just crack out the SAK.

Incidentally, stop asking the butler to do the job of your valet. The latter will know where to get your hat sorted.

Thanks for posting the vid - Now I finally understand this tool's dimensions etc.

It always looked too wide to me - as the cutting edges looked like they were at right angles to the blade surface - Anyone else have this problem?
And given all the speculation around this tool aout whether it was real or not etc etc - I though the pic could be fake
Now I see they are angled to make the blade part of the tool  ..... Phew

:like:

That’s the first video I’ve seen and looks to me like a good combination of tools. I’ve always liked the cadet for the file but miss scissors. Will I miss a can opener, probably not as 95% of cans in Australia are ring pull, I know that’s not the case everywhere but would work for me. Do I need it with all the SAKs I already have, of course not but when did that ever stop me

Yeah, that video kind of confirmed what I expected: the package opener works well and the combination of tools is close to ideal for me.  I am still pretty ambivalent about limited edition knives.  Is it a trophy?  Fancy thing, box and certificate and all that - confuses me about whether I would actually use it...  I hope they make some non limited ones with celidor or basic wood scales!  Ditto on do I need it.

I enjoyed seeing the use of the box cutter.
If the Companion had red plus scales, I'd be over the moon!
I may buy this version just for the collection and hope for a red one to be released.
Rest in peace ColoSwiss, you will always be remembered.

So, looks like little advantage over using the can opener as package opener. I'll probably pick up the celli version down the road, but not really impressed. I wish they'd paired it with the combo tool instead of the bottle opener. That'd give you all the functionality of the Climber, plus the file and new gadget.

Really?  I was pretty impressed with the way she opened that plastic packaging for a SAK.  The edge that she is using to do that is not sharpened on a Victorinox can opener.  Yes you can use that same (blunt) edge on a can opener to rip open the tape on a package but it won't handle blister packaging like the new tool did.
