Another Soldier Question
on: January 21, 2009, 01:12:59 AM
I recieved a package today from Switzerland.   It's an 84 soldier.  In the   normally blank  square on the scale it has an engraving or stamp. In the picture it is next to my 82 soldier.   My question. Is this an after market engraving or a factory one. If factory what does it stand for?

My Official, educated response is that that is the insignia of a top secret swiss special forces unit!

Might be worth a shot asking SwissBianco since he was in the Swiss Military once. He might have an idea. Maybe its an id mark for a certain unit or something?

It's a WaffenKontrol mark.  Basically it's the only real difference between an issue knife and a regular Soldier model.  It is an armorer's stamp, meaning the knife was actually issued.

Do they still use that stamp today ?  Later models didn't have that little square to put a stamp in so did they stop doing it ?

I think they discontinued that practice at the same time that Victorinox switched to the solid rivet...sometime in the '90s. My guess it the Soldiers with the blank square were assembled from surplus contract parts.
