If you are looking for some good Leatherman hallmarks to get you started. I have tried to group them in families that could be a focus in your lineup.

Very handy to list them that way.  Thanks!!

My suggestions for your consideration (only buy the ones that appeal to you):

Crunch
Mini
Squirt (be aware that the scissor spring on PS4s often breaks for no good reason)
Micra
Style
Skeletool
Juice
Wave/Charge
SuperTool/Surge
Fuse

Agreed. If you want to use some rare Leathermans...have at it I say. I am both a user and collector. I have a nice rotation of Leatherman tools that I have bought duplicates for use when I need them.

I have a Core with Monarch flashlight, a Charge AL, a MUT, a second generation Wave, and a knifeless Fuse.

If you are looking for some good Leatherman hallmarks to get you started. I have tried to group them in families that could be a focus in your lineup.

1. Pulse/Supertool 200 (Unique locking mechanism)
2. Flair (So unique that is amazes all that Leatherman actually produced it)
3. Sideclip (Unique construction)
4. Mini Tool (Interesting concept that was never duplicated other than in the darkest dankest bowels of China)
5. MUT/Signal/Skeletool/Style CS/Style PS (Interesting family that adds a carabiner)
6. Squirt E4/ES4 (Unique in that it has electrician pliers)
7. Wave/Surge/Charge (Same design, probably the best family functionality wise - The newer + gives you replaceable cutters)
8. Z Rex/Raptor (Emergency focused Leatherman and thus are a bit unique)
9. Core/Kick/Fuse/Blast (This family have Zytel lined handles for comfort)
10. Genus/Hybrid/Vista (If you are looking for the weird or esoteric, these are all shear based Leatherman tools)
11. Pocket Tools such as the Grind, Piranha, etc (The Brewzer is the most common and cheapest, but Leatherman produced a whole slew of these pocket tools that center around outdoor sports such as surfing, skateboarding, skating, etc.)
12. SuperTool/SuperTool 200/ SuperTool 300 - 300M/ Core/ Surge (These are Leatherman heavy hitters)
13. OHT (Basically a Gerber ripoff, but is also unique to everything else Leatherman has produced)
14. Juice (Any of these will do, all of them are unique enough to be significant)

That's a fantastic way to present the Leatherman models to a beginner collector.
Also, just to add, do not rush to buy everything at once. You will eventually find deals on tools and you can cross items off the list for far less money you originally thought. I found my Sideclip for $25 on ebay.

Chako, I've been looking at all 4 on eBay, and the Core looks different than the other 3.  Is there more than one version of the Core (one with similar handles)?

Core is just a Supertool with Zytel inserts and a box format  The Supertool 300 was the next version and went back to tapered handles toward the plier head and no zytel :tu:

I can see the Zytel on the other 3... where is it on the Core?

Along the sides of the handles and on both sides of the plier head  that is why it is boxed shaped with no taper towards the plier head :tu: The zytel wasn't really used to make the handles more comfortable (like with the Blast, Fuse and Kick) because the metal was already curved  they only used it to fill the space that the curves made  :D

Kinda odd now that I really think about it :D

Thanks!  I'm planning out which tools I want to collect, and I want a representative from that family.  I'm leaning toward the Blast.
.
That said, I'm putting my eBay purchasing on hold because I just found out that I can get a 40% discount on Leatherman's website. I want to grab a couple expensive tools that I have been wanting to buy.

I did not know that.
People only take photos of the outsides of their multitools these days.  ::)

You won't be able to buy a Blast from Leatherman, that whole family is retired: https://www.leatherman.com/retired-products.html

EDIT: I just re-read your post. I understand it properly now.

The blast is a great tool. Poncho65 is correct...but that is why I included that with the others of that group.  :tu:

Understood... I'm going to get 3 in production tools (probably the Charge+, Free P4, and ST300) assuming the 40% works on all 3.

The Blast would be my choice if I were to get only one from the Zytel family :salute: Black Oxide looks so awesome with the Zytel as well :dd: Just a thought  :D

The Core can either be included in the Zytel family (as Chako grouped it) or the Supertool family  it is a bit of an oddball in either family :D I usually group it in the Zytel family as well but figured it would be easier to explain that it is really a Supertool 250
