Everything is harder to get in Canada.

That's because they mark them up 30% and then do the currency conversion.   

From some posts found here recently, the quality isn't that Swiss. The scales (particularly the lock release mechanism) are not very durable. The customer service seems to be not very friendly, either.

I haven't had even the slightest indication of any problems with the ones I have, but then I guess I haven't pushed them that hard.

Started early this morning!

The second largest in the Tinker family, the Super Tinker adds scissors to the standard Tinker.  Like the standard version, and the Deluxe Tinker, it is a 91mm model, while the smallest version, the Small Tinker is an 84mm model.

The Tinker series is popular in NA where the Phillips driver is often considered to be more useful than the corkscrew traditionally found on the backside.

Sharp eyed viewers will note that this particular knife predates the rear mounted hook, introduced in 1991.

It is one of those great models that no one ever talks about.  They don't do any special edition models of it, it's not the biggest, it's not the fanciest, it isn't rare, it doesn't have time traveling scales or a toothpick that turns you invisible.  There's literally no reason to talk about it.

And yet, just about everyone has one, and uses it often.  It doesn't get a lot of discussion because it's too busy just doing what it was designed for.

Another early start!

While maybe not technically a spork, they are a regular part of my EDC, because they do serve an important function- such as a case like this where my bacon Mac and cheese did not come with utensils.

In the lower left is the Titanium Light My Fire spork, and in the upper right is a cheapo knockoff Titanium spork I purchased on eBay.

 If you are trying to decide which one to purchase, I would definitely spend the money on the Light My Fire version, as the knockoff is flimsy and bends under even the slightest pressure.  If you don't want to spend the money (understandable) then get the plastic versions of the Light My Fire spork- the knockoff is absolutely that bad!

I have one titanium and several plastic from light my fire and I love them all. They have smaller ones for kids too that we use a lot when out and around

Funny you post this, as I'm currently ordering a titanium Light My Fire to replace plastic ones and my old CRKT Eat N' Tool.  Carried them when packing my lunch when I went to college, but now they're mostly used when I eat TV dinners and Compleats and I'm too darn lazy to clean more than one utensil. Unfortunately with the plastic ones, other people in the household have nearly confused them with disposable ones (but, I still have both the blue and pink ones I bought at Walmart in a two-pack); so that's why I'm switching to the Ti.

I have many plastic ones, and honestly they probably have much more use than the Titanium ones.

I find the Titanium bends quite a bit when used on anything substantial (like a steak) and needs to be bent back I to shape.  The knockoff is even worse, but even the Light My Fire version does this.

The plastic ones, on the other hand, all eventually break, which is annoying, but at the cost I'm happy to replace them.  When I find them on sale I usually stock up.

Another one for today- yes, I took yesterday off!

The Leatherman Raptor is probably the most well known EMT/Rescue multitool, and there's a new version that has just been released.

This, however is the original version in orange, and, in addition to the trauma shears, also includes a glass breaker, ring cutter, O2 wrench and a rescue cutter V blade.

As a bonus for forum members, here is a bit more to this post that I haven't shared on the other sites because they suck.

The pics of the Raptor on the rock were taken on Saturday with my drone.  I was trying to get more interesting shots using some of the built in functions  like circling and flying in and out.  For the most part, the video effects were a complete fail, but I did manage to exercise my precision flying skills to get a few closeups!

Thanks.  I used to have an all black one, but to be honest, I am just not a fan of the Raptor- which I believe is well documented here!  Anyways, I sold or traded it a while back, then I got the SOG Parashears and I decided I wanted something to test them against, so I had to go and buy a new Raptor.... at full, Canadian retail price!   

Needless to say, it is one of the most expensive pieces in my whole collection now.

When it comes to design, Liong Mah is hard to beat, and a huge thanks to Columbia River Knife and Tool for bringing many of those designs to life!

The CRKT Viva is a great example- featuring a multi wrench cutouts, bottle opener, pry bar and a very cool slip loop to hang it from a belt loop or pack strap, the Viva weighs so little you won't even know it is there until you need it!

Today's post is going to instigate a lot of comments from Leatherman fan boys on social media! 

Of course, the "Gerber Sucks" crowd can stuff it, because this is the second most influential tool in the industry, second only to the PST, which started the modern industry as we know it.

Change my mind! 



When it comes to the most influential tools in the industry, this old Gerber MultiPlier is a top contender.  It has a useful array of non-locking tools and a sliding head, but what makes it cool is what happened next.

This is the predecessor to the MP series of tools, which include the MP400, MP600 (issued to more troops worldwide than any other tool AND has more variants than any other tool), the MP650 (swappable head multitool), the MP700 and MP800. 

Additionally, this design inspired multiple other sliding head type tools like the Gerber Freehand and Center-Drive, the Paul Chen MultiTasker and the Leatherman One Hand Tool (OHT).

The great thing about the early days of any market is that there is a lot more creativity as designers try new things as they try to decide what works and what doesn't.  You get all kinds of cool and diverse things until the marketers, sales people and other boring people find outnwhat makes the most money, and they request the same song over and over again.

Sure, we can try it in different colors or we can use different materials or we can put some fancy cutouts in the handle.... but in the end, it's the same blah design in a fancy outfit.

Not so with the early tools, all of which were meant to stand out, use different mechanisms, do different jobs, solve the usual problems in different and fantastic ways.

Don't get me wrong, every now and then you see a new and exciting tool announced, but for the most part you figure the designers are looking at their phones all day and look up long enough to say "uh huh, yeah, same as last week.   What?  Different?  Okay, paint it blue.  Whoa, check out what this guy did on Facetock with the monkey and the barbecue sauce!"

Shout out to the forum in this one- can't let the Wiki have all the fun! 

The Tag, a titanium one piece tool designed by Damned Designs to look like a military dog tag.

It is a little bit larger than a standard dog Tag, but has three different wrench sizes and a bottle opener.  It weighs very little, and no worries about corrosion!

Megan was nice enough to loan me her knife for today. 

The Camper model from Victorinox is one of the more popular models available- in fact, it was the very first model I ever had, and without it, there may not have been a Multitool.org to begin with!

This particular model belongs to @multitoolmeg and has had its red scales swapped for cool camouflage ones, and had the eyeglass screwdriver added to its corkscrew for more versatility.

Oddball today!  I'm imagining there aren't too many of these out there!

Here's one I'll bet most of you out there haven't seen!

The CRKT Tool from CRKT (in case you couldn't guess!) features spring loaded, button actuated, locking Phillips and flathead drivers, one hand opening  wood saw and plain edge blade, bottle opener, bit set, pocket clip and a sheath!  It really does check all the boxes!

So why wasn't it a bigger hit?  Well, I am sure there are reasons, but I like to think it was a bit too different to catch on!  That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

They definitely win the award for breaking tradition, don't they?

I am a big fan of a lot of their stuff, regardless of how actually useful it may be.  The designs are just a lot of fun and show all kinds of different ideas.

Your right, nothing wrong with thinking outside of the box. Keeps me buying for sure, but that last CRKT creation, the Septimo is just little far out in left field if you know what I mean.
