Knifeless PST Mod (sorta)
on: October 08, 2021, 01:51:01 AM
I have 2 PSTs. One of them is in good shape. The other one had seen some hard usage and less than adequate care before I bought it. A great excuse for me to fix it and do some modifications.

Here are some pictures of it. I am not done with it yet, but do plan on it being finished in time for the November PST challenge.

The knife was in bad shape, so I decided to convert it into an awl. The file and scissors came from a Multiforce. I guess it is a PST/PST II/SideClip mix.

Top job that  :tu:

Living in the UK Ive considered whether I could get away with no knife and a sharp enough awl or similar for box opening duties etc.   Did you have to modify the Multiforce tools to fit?

Thanks!
I figure it will work well paired with a good knife. Might be time for me to get a traditional pocket knife

I am going to try to do something decorative with the clip. And I do mean try. My artistic skills are nearly nonexistent.

You may be able to get by with it using a short awl such as the one that comes with the PST. I think that the one I made from the knife blade is looks long enough to be considered dangerous  :dunno:

The file, which is an outside opening tool on the Multiforce, had to be modified at the pivot end to work with the PST backspring. Also, the file sat a little high in the handle and needed a little grinding so that the handles would close (almost) all the way.

The scissors work fine as is with the backspring. But I did need to grind off a little bit of the handle arm so that the pliers could tuck in a little farther into the handle when closed.

Great work getting those tools to fit :salute: I made a PST 1.5 with a similar toolset to this a few years ago and may use that some during the PST Challenge

Thanks for the link

I remember reading the thread where you added the saw blade, but I don't think I had read your original mod thread before now. But I must have, because I have been looking at all of the PST mods on the forum.

Besides the file and scissors, I also ground a chisel edge on the large straight driver. Looks like great mediocre minds think alike!

That thread was over in the Leatherman sub forum instead of the Mod Squad, could be why you missed it  :dunno: :D

Thank you, Steve  :hatsoff:

I am still pondering about the tools. Might make a couple of changes. And my second attempt at doing something decorative with the clip looks like something my grandson would make at daycare (the first attempt was an utter failure). I have one more clip. I may solicit some opinions on whether to use my second clip or to use the untouched third clip.

Maybe BO it

I am not artistic in that sense either and would probably just leave it but some members here are way artistic and come up with awesome ideas :ahhh perhaps you just haven't thought of the right idea yet :tu:

These are the 2 options:

I etched "MTO" into the clip. But the composition of the clip is different than the handles of the PST, so the etched areas were light gray instead of dark gray. So I painted a light coat of black nail polish onto the etched areas.

It is crude looking, but that is about as good as I can do it.

 I prefer the plain clip but that is me, all my clips are plain :D

With MTO on it, you for sure know it is yours :tu: :like:
