Day 19

Tomorrow is trash day, so you know I used my Rebar blade a lot... other than that, I spent all day on the sofa.  It was glorious  :dd:

Day 20(!!)

December 20

Used the Rebar to pry up the disengage locks of the folding ladder. Then used the PE blade to cut open the packaging of a new computer mouse for my wife. It’s one of those situations when you wish you still had more space on the Rebar to add a specialized tool. Worst case is I’ll put to file the can opener and (try) to make it into a package opener.

Soo.. Is that an upcoming scissor mod?

[It's not failure if you learn something from it]

I might do it though I do have enough tools with scissors and a Micra I won on the bay is coming in a few days. Probably if I get a donor tool on the cheap I will. Recently I bought a cheap-ish Blast ( at half the price of new Rebar around here) with the intention to use for parts. But when it came it was so nice, only thing bad was that the small flathead was broken. But it was broken on the very top so I shaped a new one. And it’s the only Leatherman I own (not counting the Crunch but it doesn’t have that kind of pliers) that doesn’t significantly stiffen when I squeeze something hard. So it won’t be taken apart.

I understand that! It's not easy to take apart tools that aren't broken. That's why I took the other route and bought just the scissors as parts

Looked at that option but for my situation it didn’t make sense financially. There are rarely, if any, parts for sale within the EU. As you probably know all too well, importing from outside the EU  means customs. And around here the procedure is slow and with lots of bureaucracy. I am sometimes willing to deal with customs and import fees if it’s about a cool knife or tool, but not for parts. So a quick search on the bay showed the closest suitable parts to be in Ukraine. Scissors + shipping costing about 21 eur. When I add to that the duty, import fee, the fee of the posts for representing me in front of the customs and the postage from the customs to me … that ends up to about 35 eur. Thats how much I payed tor that Blast on the local used stuff site.

I don't remember or don't want to remember what I paid for mine in the end. But I know the feeling of having to pay way more in fees here in the EU and a slow postal service.. I totally get you having two tools instead.. And two tools are twice the fun

Day 20 - I needed a 22mm buckle for a leather project but didn't have any and while reading for my toddler I looked at an old bag sticking up from one of the toy boxes.. The buckle had a perfect fit and none of the kids uses that bag to play with anymore so I salvage the hardware and got rid of the rest. Got to use the SE blade, flathead and Phillips, I didn't expect the Phillips to work with that small heads but it did

Has anyone encountered an issue with the screwdrivers breaking while using them?  I haven't with the Rebar, but the Super Tool 300 I had snapped a straight edge while turning a screw.  It was like the casting was defective.

Day 18

So I am walking down the hall and I see my wife looking concerned over the washer banging too much during the spin cycle.  Without a word, I stop, whip out my Rebar, and I tighten one of the legs to stop it from banging.  As I start to walk off, she says "What, no picture?"

That's a good woman  :tu:

I have chipped screwdriver bits on a Blast and a PST (I am sure others as well) but not thinking I have on a Rebar or ST300

Day 20

Rebar helped in the making of its helper!
I used the Rebar to cut and tie the wire used to keep the pliers closed and aligned, while I cut and ground the tip of the needle nose for my new "leatherman disassembly pliers"; needed a 2nd one, as I was over relying on the fixed end of the pivot to loosen the other end.  The one on the left is the older one.

Great job Juan, you did a much nicer and neater job than I did on mine back before the loki tools were available.

It must be an MT thing Juan! If I hadn't already been in a challenge this month, I'd have loved to do a Rebar challenge.  I might have to give it a go next year!

Salvaging parts, nuts and bolts, random metal pieces is something I love to do. My wife don't enjoy me doing it because I've accumulated a lot  :D. Because of that I love it even more when I get go use a piece of my "collection" to repair something for the household

As long as my wife thinks I'm going to use them right away it's fine cause she does the same. But she does not like it when I just collects "good to have" things. Unless she needs something and I just happen to have it

Hello there.
I am late again with day 19.
SWAMBO wanted some pictures hung up after painting so it was out the the Rebar to do some package opening.
Bit tricky without a blade but hey the saw did the job.
Herself is now relatively happy with pictures up. Long may it last ! :D

Day 20

My Rebar was very handy today - I used the blade, the pliers, the Philips head, and the prybar thing.  We finished up the day with the cookie opener.  (I used the blade to cut the plastic seal)
