Jothr-o-Lantern! 🎃
on: November 01, 2021, 06:12:36 AM
Traditionally, my Jack-o-lanterns are heinous and/or horrific, but I wanted a school-safe one for this year.

I don't draw patterns. Not because I'm particularly talented, mind you — I just like improvising Jack-o-lanterns.

This pumpkin was opened and carved with a 1981-83 Huntsman, scraped out with my Kershaw spork, and scooped out with my hands. The only other outside items were the straight pins I used to attach the floating pupils, and the Rovyvon A7 flashlight I used to light it up for the picture (I will use tea lights for actual display)..

In order: opening the top, scooped innards in the background as the eyeball carving starts, corkscrew removes eyeball cutouts, finished carving with pupils pinned in place.

The final product!

Man, I love Halloween.

Thanks, guys! It's less...um...intense than my usual carvings, but I'm happy with how the pupils turned out.

Nicely done. I was never that creative when carving jack-o-lanterns.

But now you need to post some photos of past not-school-safe ones you've carved.

Other people in my family tend to be the picture takers, but I have some shots from a couple years ago. They let me use red paint!

I'm going to spoiler this in case anyone gets squeamish about violently disfigured pumpkins.

Those remind me of Calvin's disfigured snowmen in the Calvin and Hobbes comic strip.
