Used the hook on my Compact to fish out a drawstring that got pulled through on my wife's pants. Was the perfect implement for the task and it saved the day since I am currently on vacation out of the country. Hope this will count for a Hook User badge!

Thank you, everyone! It is nice when a tool does save the day! I find this to be a misunderstood implement at first. Using it to hold the pen is another great use (discussed by others before) which make it very useful to me.

Here's the main problem I have with the hook... actually deploying the darned thing!

On most models that include the scissors/hook layer, the hook is too close to the key ring which makes it really hard to get it out. I can do it but I'm almost guaranteed to damage a fingernail in the process.

I open every tool with a thumbnail, as that's usually the strongest nail on your hand.

I have a difficult time getting my thumbnail in there! Especially on something like a Climber where the hook is jammed in between the corkscrew on one side and the key ring assembly on the other.

The easiest SAKs I own to deploy the hook are the Deluxe Tinker and the Explorer. Why? Because there's a full layer between the hook and the key ring!
