Really, there is only one thing missing on this tool... the Blade Exchanger! Seriously. This essentially a Charge sized Mini-Surge, but without the blade exchanger. Leatherman is oh so close to breaking new territory here. The tool could go wider, or skip that eyeglass bit thing, slider stuff over, put the blade exhanger in place of the file. And ya know someone's going to mod one of these or the Arc and do just that.

Mine arrived today, probably literally the last of these delivered in the lower 48.  Overall, very pleased to have won the lottery and have this one here.  The thumbstud on the super-smooth Magnacut (!) blade is a great addition - the whole blade is a great addition, though I'd skip the Cerakote.  The other trip is the spring-loaded pliers.  I'm actually not a big fan of spring-loaded pliers, but I will admit to having opened the #5 a few times just to see those pliers in action.  :D

The user-serviceable pivot is neat.  That showed up on the Darkside and the explanation was that they had to be able to coat the pliers heads before assembly, so they needed a joint that could be assembled after coating.  I'm pretty sure Leatherman either couldn't or wouldn't offer spring-loaded pliers if the joint wasn't serviceable.  Even if you could assemble them before peening the rivet you certainly couldn't service them when inevitable users return them with broker springs for warranty service - and I'm sure these springs will break, some percentage of all small wire springs break.

I was going to say that if I were in charge of tool selection, I'd probably dump either the can opener and awl or the large slotted screwdriver in favor of the Philips #2 driver on the P4 and P2, although I'm not certain about that.  The P2 driver is basically the same as a Leatherman flat bit so arguably you wouldn't gain anything.    Maybe the flat driver is worth keeping as a scraper/very light duty prybar?

I don't use the can opener much.  I get a *lot* of use from the SAK bottle opener and would prefer a tool/blade like that to the can opener but obviously YMMV.

Wanted to mention in response to the quoted text above that someone has designed what looks like a very good blade exchanger for the P series tools.  He has a YT video on the part, which can be ordered from Shapeways.  If you have any trouble finding it, let me know.  I have no affiliation at all with him or Shapeways.

Mine just arrived at my door 15 minutes ago   :woohoo:

I'm still playing with it, but so far I love it... well, everything except the flat-tip awl    All of the tools operate very smoothly, especially the blade.  I saw a complaint online about the handles being too tight, but as long as you don't expect a balisong-like operation on the pliers, they are perfect.  I hope the Arc is very similar.

Found a much older basic black sheath I think was for a Wave. The snap still has a bite, and fits the #5 quite well, although is tight. The rivets used are not brass, but a silvery tubular rivet that flares out across the leather. Would be concerned of wearing down the ceramic coating though, exposed metal rivets.

Do not have much on hand. Those Original Charge sheaths went through the freaking roof on eBay. People think they are worth $100+?!?! Not paying $100  for a sheath with elastic sides, maybe garment leather, but NOT elastic.

Seen this seller on Ebay with some sheaths. Sent him this:

Here are the photos to the Leatherman Garage #5.

Want enough leather for the pocket clip to clip over the edge. Pocket clip is 2.0 inches long, 0.14 inches inner space.
Closed tool is 1.24 inches wide without blade top. With blade it is 1.40 inches, but it should be able to create a pocket inside the sheath over time.

Closed tool is 4.25 inches long, 0.68 inches thick, 1.24 inches wide.

Think you have something or cane make a quality sheath? If so, may have more business for you from those of us on Multitool.Org.

Also would prefer a double snap flap with aggressive-bite snaps for extra security.

Does fit in this older case, but it is very tight.

Hello, thanks for reaching out! Looks like something we can put together for you no problem. However, my brother is the one who takes care of this and he is gone on a family trip for next couple days. Once he gets back, he will work out the details with you. Thank you again!, Abe

I like the scales of the Garage 5 and the jaws of Mr Crunch.

Slightly underwhelmed by the Europe75.

It definitely seems like the Free series is the future for Leatherman if the Garage releases and the Arc are anything to go by.

Can’t quite decide if it annoys me that Mr Crunch and #005 have  the letting stamped on opposite sides or I prefer them this way as it’s more symmetrical  :D

Works quite well with two.. but if you had more hmm.

Love Mr Crunch. Wish I had one. Glad I don’t.

Oh and I’m assuming they’ll stay with the Free design purely as it’s still under patent and stops (in theory) clones.

Doubt we will see a new design until that patent expires.

Great pics, Crunchie :woohoo: I think they will stay with the Free design for a while as well :salute: and I believe Cynan's theory is a very high probability of being correct :tu:

Excellent clip Poncho. Strange to see the spring-loaded pliers in action, but that thumb stud on the main blade sure looks convenient :tu:

It seems to make a real difference. The blade on my Garage 5 opens much more smoothly than the ones on my Free P4 or Mr Crunch.

Thanks all :hatsoff:

:iagree: the knife opens butter smooth :ahhh  and the spring loaded pliers are better than what I was expecting as well :o they don't make them seem cheap and you can also close the pliers and they don't just spring open on you, so ot is a more controlled spring 8) :like:

I will get some pics up tomorrow and try to get some side by side pics as well

I think this might be the best Leatherman ever. Its so smooth, great load out, and a really polished multitool. The cerakote feels fantastic in hand as well. I didn't think I'd ever love something more than the Mr. Crunch or Flair, but I think I do.
