Is $35 too much for a Minichamp XL?

Stumbled upon this while advising a new collector on 58mm models. Too cheap to pass up!

Absolute bargain for a rare, retired, unusual model.

This was the ultimate MiniChamp really - One extra spring layer than the regular MC

Although same no. of tool layers!!

It really isn’t worth my time unfortunately. Maybe if nobody bids on it I’ll bid it to $1 last second just to screw with him!

Well, it could also be that some other prospective buyer contacted the seller and told him/her that a higher price would have been in order. As long as we don't know the facts of the case, it's all just theory and hypothesis. So better not jump to hasty conclusions.

After a sale has been completed on eBay? That's not OK.

Wow. That stinks. Negative feedback is in order, assuming you already paid and have that option.

It’s relisted.

It does make me feel better about the honest sellers out there. I’ve gotten a few $0.99 1-bid steals in the distant past. It’s really up to the seller to start bidding at a price they can stomach in those situations…or just set a reserve price (which I always hate).

Relisted?

That means the seller has canceled the original sale illegally. The smurfhole should be thrown into an oubliette.

And he has taken the text I wrote from SAKWiki - At least he credited SAKWiki.
But cancelling and relisting is  :twak: able

Oh, I’m sure most of us know what it means.

Every time I see incorrect info taken from the wiki…it always makes me want to fix it. The biggest irony is that I’ve scored some awesome NIB items for cheap due to this sort of issue. And I’m still compelled to fix such issues. I’m crazy that way.

As for the cancellation, I may have been a victim of this practice from the same seller a while back. While not the ‘black list’, he’s definitely on a list.

Hi KK,

Do you mean fix the error in a listing ? Or that the Wiki is incorrect...
If the former - I have contacted a few sellers to correct them on listing errors - Usually false (sometimes outrageous) claims on dates or rarity!!
eg Huntsman from post 2005 claimed to be "rare, antique SAK"    etc etc
But I don't frequent ebay that much anymore - Not sure if that is a :)  or a :(

If that latter please let me know the error  - This is what he copied from the Wiki on the XL.
Quote
The MiniChamp XL is even larger than the MiniChamp, adding the small divot tool and the older type of nailfile (with the file cut into the metal). However the XL is still classified as a five layer SAK! - See layer definitions here. Robert Elsener of Victorinox reported (June 2008): "The MiniChamp XL was produced between 1999 and 2002, and sold until 2005."

I mean either/both. Not specifically this listing.

Errors in the listings are sometimes ‘pass-through’ errors originating in the wiki. Names and dates usually. Sometimes it is just the seller misunderstanding what they’ve researched here.

There’s way too much for me to cover here, but if you were to update your spreadsheet to include some of the common or not so common knowledge start/end dates, it would be something you could do directly.

For example:
Double leaf scissor springs start c. 1970, not 1975.
Shackles end c. 1970. But do not change the key ring start date. They aren’t the same.
Conical awls run at least to 1963.
Stainless shields start by 1975. Nickel silver don’t end until maybe 1980.

That’s just off the top of my head.  :dunno:

Looks like the relisted item sold again…this time over $100.

I can’t find it, but I am certain now that this seller did something similar to me a while back. Ugh. Disgusting.

I’ve had the exact same thing happen with this same eBay seller!
Perhaps this seller has never heard this quote before...

Ironically, this practice is probably why this seller doesn’t always get ‘fair market price’ at times.

I know other sellers have gone down the path of alienating their best customers in various ways, but this is definitely one of the worst.

Not that it’s nearly as bad as this…but one of my gripes is how some sellers almost never accept my offers, but often end up selling me the item at auction…sometimes for significantly less than I offered. Weirdest that it’s common with knives that are really just for parts or in need of repair.

Crazy smurfs…said the crazy smurf.
