Vintage Alox Pioneer w/custom firesteel fob!!!
on: January 26, 2009, 07:45:29 AM
Here is my new edc knife and I'm extremely happy with. The pioneer was a gift from Dennis (WH867) and I'm beyond greatful for that. Thanks again Dennis!

The fob was made by custom lanyard and fob guru Ken Cardwel. If your interested in where to see Ken's work, please send me a pm.  :tu:

Ken custom made this fob for me in the colors that I thought would best match this classic knife. What is really cool is that Ken put a firesteel under the paracord so I will always have an emergency firesteel with me. It also adds a little heft to the fob which I really like. What do you guys think?

Sometimes change is a good thing, other times not so much!

Ahhh... That's a great knife and a great fob to accompany it. I've been willing to make myself a bunch of such fobs  every since I first saw that idea but I just can't find any standalone small firestarter rods around here... :(

Thanks!   I'll talk to my guy and see if he'll tell me his source. If he does, I'll send you the link.  :tu:

Thanks guys. Actually the "around here" (reads "reasonable s/h cost") is the hardest part in the firestarter equation...

Nice SAK  :tu:  I have a real soft spot for well worn alox.

I'll have to have a go at one of those fobs, its a very sensible idea.  I have a plain firesteel to do it with but I think it might be too chunky.  Only one way to tell :)

Neil
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

When they get to that well worn stage they look great.  :tu: It's the interim stage of just looking rough that I'm not a fan of.  :-\

Once they start looking rough you could polish it to get that well worn look, like this chap did:
