I'm building a top-of-the-line 110 with the same handles (am already starting to set aside the funds to have enough in time to have it built and shipped by November), but the version I have chosen will have the drop-point blade. I'm still deciding whether to go for pinned handles or not.

Day 11: made a feed run to Tractor Supply, and opened the stuff I bought with the 110.  Found a two pack (7 and 10 inch) Cresent Vise Grips in teh clearance section for $10, and I intended to find some Schleich blind bag animals as well. Unlike most of the "blind bag" junk everyone is putting out nowadays, they are more cost-effective than buying individual figures. 

First of all, I found my Tractor Supply didn't even have them out--just opened the shipping boxes and sat them on top of a shelf--I only noticed them as the labels listed them as the item I'd wanted. Secondly, they were not the "Series 2" that TSC had listed on the website--they were Series 5, which did not contain any adult cattle like Series 2, I"m guessing cut because they were now more each than the whole blind bags of 3.  This one did have Angus and Holstein calves, as well as a couple of foals in this assortment, but I got none. I felt the bags and selected one that had what I believed to be a large animal, but it wasn't exactly. The big animal was a big old fat tom turkey with his big tail, and the other two were a nanny goat and a little Yorkie.

These are transparent bags, so next time, I'm bringing one of my more powerful Olights to see through them.





These were each packed in their own individual polybags and leg tags (the tag fell of the Yorkie as I was unpacking it) exactly as they are shipped to stores--and thus can be exchanged if the store has them. They are far cheaper than buying the figures individually--these are about $20 altogether, and the cost of the blind bags is just $10. The turkey is $8, the goat $6, and Yorkie $5. However, most seem to have been recently retired, so I'm guessing Schleich chooses discontinued models as a way to clear out old stock.

Carried a cheaper folder while I helped put in a new oil furnace. Personal rule--always carry a tool I don't mind if it gets ruined.

I'm all for leaving things as-is ,but my great-uncle beat the crap out of this 110. Handles were full of dents (and one recently cracked, which will mean they'll get replaced) and the blade had seen a bench grinder.  I don't want a new blade in it, but I'm hoping Buck can rid the knife of those scratches, and have it as sharp out of the box as a new 110.  T

DAY 13  The 110 isn't the best bread knife, but it will get the job done.
