Day 16

No use today, so the Spartan posed with a friend. I believe the friend is a .30-06.

Nice! Somewhere around here, I have knives designed to fit in handles that look like a .45 handgun round and a 12GA shotgun shell.

Day 17 (so far)

I used the small blade on my Spartan to cut the tag off some new pants before I washed them.

Day 18:

I kind of cheated. Today, I prepared to sell some diecast models, and had to do some math--both for calculating my cost, as well as the total w/shipping for the car I sold today.  Only pen I could find in my room was the one on my Golfer (Compact with divot tool instead of the Combo Tool, and no file on the hook as it predates the modern Compact by a few years). Yeah, I'd prefer a Compact, but this one cost me about a third of what a used Compact goes for.

I kept getting Discover card offers when I was actively enrolled in college, and when I stopped, they stopped. I always burned the things. And then they wonder why so many people my age are in debt....

No kidding! I was in my 30s before I had a credit card. Ideally I'd only use them to establish residency after an interstate move.

Late Day 17. I needed to slide a ventilation cover on my cycling shoes but the little grub screw warranted the Phillips on my Rambler to avoid mangling it.

Great job everyone!  The Spartan is a wonderful knife, but there's times that a dedicated tool fits the need better.

I tend to buy that one every time I see it on the pegs. I think I might have 3? now.   There's a bit slot in the chassis, but well, it's a toy car, so the tolerances aren't great. It's too loose on all of the ones I have.

This is the only one I currently have.  I know Def has at least one.  For whatever reason, the casting on this one's but driver slot is tight.  It's a fun one!  We have a caplifter (Carbonater) in the kitchen that does a great job  :D

Cutting a cigar in half is a creative way of trimming it.   :salute:

A little over the halfway point of my first challenge, I would like to make a couple of observations (random and unrelated).

1. It's been interesting to see what everyone else uses their SAK for day to day.

2. I have bumped into the limitations of the Spartan tool set a few times. A couple of times I needed a pair of pliers and had to reach for a dedicated pair in situations that my Deluxe Tinker would have been ideal for. Scissors have been missed once or twice - I've managed to get by with the small blade with one exception when I had to resort to the Rambler's 58mm scissors for a delicate situation.

3. The challenge is really making me pay attention to which tools I use and what I'm actually using them for in a way that I've never really taken conscious notice of before. It's been really interesting and educational. Even when the challenge is over, I think I'll still be paying attention to which SAKs/tools I actually need and use as opposed to just what I think might be cool to have. Collecting is one thing, and is fun on its own. EDC is a different matter entirely.

That's pretty much it. I'm having a blast doing the challenge and really enjoying participating with this community of SAK lovers!
