I always press too hard and scratch through the paper. I suppose I could use some more practice time.

Heavy pressure can cause issues. For sure. I don't lend anyone my fountain pens. Ever. (OK, Mrs Nix uses them now and then, but she has her own and knows how to use 'em.) I don't lend them out because often people apply ballpoint pen pressure with a fountain pen and that can damage the nib.

• Don't let someone damage your nib!
• Keep your nib clean and lint free.
• If your nib ain't working right, try giving it a soak in warm water, then drying it off with a lint free cloth or towel.
• Use the least pressure you are able to while keeping up a good flow.
• Never use your nib as a pointer, to tap things, or for games--it is way too easy to have an accident and damage it!
• Your nib is precious; take good care of it!

I know I'm making these pens sound fussy, but I've taken them everywhere. In the military, I deployed with fountain pens to harsh places. I've used them at home, office, school, and vacation. As long as you are mindful that they can be damaged through abuse, they will serve well.  (And often better than other pens, I've used some freeze-proof inks in my pens so that they would work in extreme cold. Not all pens do!)  :tu:

Well...

Some preparations in progress...
I believe that pen will create more fuss than I can deal:

Better solution here:

The upper one was a gift from my paternal grandfather. It was his favorite pen.
I received It with eleven years old and still is one of my most prized possessions. ( Imagine for a 11 years boy, receive as gift the favorite pen of one of your grandfathers. And I must say that both were awesome persons)

But... I have another Parker in the way for this challenge.
I will use the pen mostly at work, and bought one more to sit on my desk and in the pocket of my uniform.
Cheaper and more adequate to my lack of pratice with fountain pens.

Awlthough I use them a lot, I'm sitting this one out. I might post a pic or two, just to add to the variety.

Great Challenge Nix. I'm tempted but I've become a real Fisher space pen geek so ... hmmm  and I'm in for Barry's Spartan Challenge in July because, well, we didn't have one until I asked why there wasn't one. Barry fixed that. And I so want the Spartan badge  :ahhh

Well, you can be cured of that goopy Fisher fixation with a return to using a civilized writing instrument. And, do both the Spartan Challenge and the Dribbly Nib. Just claim the Spartan badge. (Of course, you can awl-ways get a Spartan badge during the next Minimalist SAK challenge...who knows when the next fountain pen challenge will be.... :pok:)

Quick question for you Nix, can one do a daily drawing rather than a bit of writing?

The beater Parker arrived! (Parker Vector)
I believe it will pair nicely with a Opinel for the challenge.

Blue ink is a thing that I'm not accustumed to use. Usually my colours of choice are Black, Brown or Purple (Enzo Ferrari aproves!) in Mitsubishi or Stabilo pens since... well, longe time ago.
I ordered brown Pelikan Ink for the Vector.

Opinel really get well with a fountain pen

In case anyone is searching for a decent writer, besides the usual suspect(Kawico, Lamy, Japanese Brands, etc), I'd also like to recommend the PenBBS pens.  These pens are creations from a Chinese fountain pen forum called PenBBS, which is the synonym to the Fountain Pen Network.

I just received a 355 Improved Version(deep transparent green with silver swirl, two tone nib and a bulk fuller) and a 491 (strawberry with purple, convertor).  Considering I got them about 30-40usd each and the good initial impression, I do think they are worthy for consideration, if you are looking for a pen.   (I'm not affiliated with PenBBS, and receive no discount/benefit from them).

In a great and lucky day, I found another Parker 45 Flighter. New, old stock. A bit pricy... But worth every cent.
The exact model of pen that my grandfather gave me. Both are really identical except for the clip. The newer one have a silver clip.
And both are made in Brazil.
Now I have a clone for the challenge!
