The photos I've seen show them as being similar to (Richard) Petty blue. They do pop up on eBay from time to time...and awlways get away from me.

Yeah, Channellock's blue handle covers are similar to Petty blue:

Some great knives, y'awl! :tu: I'm really digging the Frontier and the Soddies.

He is still in the hospital.
Continued well wishes for him.

Is the handle painted wood?  I ask because I bought an Opinel with a colored handle, and it ended up being plastic  :ahhh
Opinel.does have some knives with plastic handles, but my green one is color tinted wood.

Speaking of...

Day 22

Y'awl get a twofer today. I wanted to show the Opinel No. 2, which is the smallest model currently in production. (Yes, until some time in the 1930s, they made a smaller one.) I posed it with my beloved Imperial cattle knife to show just how tiny it is. The Imperial is 3.375 inches (~85.7mm) closed.

I should have taken a better picture because you can't even tell what knife I'm using, but it is so rare that I can actually catch an action shot that I just went for it and decided to use it as is.  It is the Ocean Blue Case Mini Stockman which I carried earlier in the challenge.  And yes McStitchy, you do need a stockman, and the Case minis  carry well and cut like a bigger knife.  Highly recommend it.

Day 23 -

All that talk of STOCKMANS, had me assembling my clan and begin comparing the few I had.

Group photo
[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

When I understood that these pocket knives were called slip joints and were defined by patterns, the Stockman was the model I first embraced.  Feel head over heels for a Camillus model 66 that I found in a Pawn shop. And since acquired a couple Buck 301s and then a 373 in a gift set, And most recently a Yellow Case at a flea market and others in between.

Interesting that the blades are placed differently.

But, from what I have fiddled with Buck’s 301 has the back spring just right.  Easy to deploy, good snap to shut and holds blade very firmly when open. The Case back spring is very stiff, much more than needed and a steel trap for closing.  Just my humble opinion😉

Day 23

You might have noticed that I've been away from home for a few days so a few packages needed opening when I got home earlier today.

Some knives you fall in love with the moment you get them.  Others, you don't.  Some of those you might never come around to liking, some of those might, just might, grow on you.  Happily this RR Red Pick Bone Peanut is one that grew on me.
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

Day 23

If I learned one thing in this challenge, it's that I prefer carrying smaller, lighter pocket knives.  I decided to go to the extreme end of this and buy a very small knife - a Case Tiny Trapper.  It's a little pricey considering the size, but I love this little thing.

I read earlier that we shouldn't post pics of SAKs, but I had to include one just for size comparison.  Here's a pic of the Tony Trapper next to a Classic SD.

Given that's a really useful size comparison I think that's perfectly acceptable.   On that note; I hadn't realised just how tini these really were.  :ahhh  I'm 100% with you though, the majority of my trads are medium to smaller sizes and my bigger knives don't see nearly as much pocket time.

Day 23:

Today I tried to "fix" the edge on the Lambsfoot. I used a Dremel to cut in a choil, which removed some of the recurve. I then used coarse stones to grind out the waviness in the edge. This took longer than expected and in the process, I removed enough metal to grind out the choil!

Finished up with finer stones, the Hard Arkansas stone for a keen edge. Stropped with a 1/2 micron diamond paste on a leather strop. The blade is a bit thinner, but wicked sharp. I don't think I did a perfect job, but I think it is better. I'm still tempted to add another choil, but that can be done later.  :D

Hope Dean would have approved!
