Hello everyone,

This is my first post ever in this forum, let me make a brief introduction.
I'm from Spain and I have never been a multitool user, at home we do like knives but we have never had a lot of knowledge about them. We have always liked Victorinox and I keep two swiss army knives from granda and pops.

Ok, recently I started thinking on getting a multitool for carrying when I go out with the bycicle and for having at home. I started watching a lot of youtube videos and reading some reviews and decided to get a Swisstools Spirit X, which I have already received.
I would like to ask in the forum about the condition of the multitool I got.

I bought the Spirit X from Thomann, yes, the music retailer, turns out they sell Victorinox multitools and at a decent price, what do you know? I have bought from Thomann from time to time, they are a big music retailer and they have a very good customer service with a 30 days return policy for purchases. I might be making use of this in the coming days : (

I don't want to make the post too long and bore you, my multitool was not packed correctly and on arrival the multitool box had some tear. It would look like someone oppened the box without any care and big hands, the leather pouch which hold the multitool was also facing down instead of up (in all the unboxig videos that I could find, the Victorinox logo was facing up, not down). Both things made me paranoid about the multitool being handled or being a B-Stock product. I think that I shoudl explain this a little.
Thomann has a B-stock policy, if they get back a product because it had minor imperfections or for whatever reason, they try to fix it and leave it in good condition, then they sell the product again but with a discount, B-Stock. This was not the case for my multitool, which I bought new.

So, I have not been using the Spirit X but have been checking if everything is correct with a magnifying glass (not kidding). All the tools look good, the multitool had some oil on it (but not a lot of oil as some reviews state) and the only things I could find are:
- The screws from one of the sides have liiitle hammering marks. Nothing that you can see unless you have good sunlight and I guess that this might be correct, the building process I guess.
- Most tools are rock solid when opened, but there are two which have the slightest lateral wiggle if you try to move them, the 2 mm screwdriver and the can opener. Very slight.
- One of the multitool arms seemed much stiffer than the other. Nothing really stiff, but the difference was notable and I have added some oil drops.
- In general, turns you find a lot of smaaaall imperfections if you look at a new Spirit X with a magnifying glass. Smal dent on the reamer edge, two black spots on the chisel body and edge, etc. This is just informative, nothign of this really bothers me.

All these things don't pose an issue with my new Spirit X, as it looks very good for the most part, but there is one thing that I would like to ask here to other Spirit X owners.
The by watching videos and photos I thought the pliers closed completelly or very closelly, but in this multitool it is not the case and they had a noticeable separation when closed.
My one question is the separation in my multitool's plier head correct? I'm attaching a photo I made this afternoon and also one of the multitool box.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]    [ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

So, do you guys think this is the right separation for the Spirit X pliers?
If this is correct, I most likely won't return the multitool, I think that there is nothing that is really wrong with it. I'm pretty sure it was handled at Thomann's warehouse and I wanted to keep the multitool's box but well, things happen. What can you do?

Sorry if the post was very long. I can't help it and always write a lot in forums.

Thanks in advance to anyone who might help and give me some light on this subject. I have to say that I have quite liked the Spirit X, I was not sure about it being the small Victorinox multitool but after having it in my hands it seems perfect if you want to carry a multitool with you.

Best regards,
Djiaux.

Hey Barry.

Thanks for confirming it man : ) I really appreciate it.

Ok, then I will keep it and hope I will give it good use for many years. It seems very nice, so solid, lightweight, well built... no doubt one of the bests multitools out there.

Looking forward being a part of the community, let's see what is this all about.

Regards,
Djiaux.

It definitely is a tough multi tool.  It can take much more use and abuse than it looks.

Hello,
I agree with Barry.  Just checked one of mine.  I now see I need to clean it, but you can see dark paper under the tool where it is open like yours.
Rest in peace ColoSwiss, you will always be remembered.

It could have been dropped, mishandled, or even been something returned by a customer who just changed their mind....
Another possibility, since you're in Spain and Thomann is German, is that it was ripped open by a Customs official. We get that a fair bit here, and they ofton don't put stickers on things to say they went rummaging through your stuff, either!

Either way, it sounds like you chose well and we look forward to future posts about your Spirited adventures - Welcome to the forum!  :tu:

Welcome to  :MTO: , Djiaux; yes, it is normal in some of your instances: the sheath come back side up, the pliers tip are the ones in contact, the finish is mirror polished but, not inmaculate; tools are covered in oil. However, mine came wrapped in plastic, and there is no play between tools or handles. Mine's has a date of 2021 on the box, if that makes a difference.  [ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]    [ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]    [ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

They are sweet and if you don’t need the saw, the MXBS is awesome.

For a duty carry it would be perfect.  I can get away with a Swisstool or Spirit for all of my work needs but one hand opening of at least the blades would make either of them ideal.  The MXBS is on my list of future purchases.

Hello again everyone,

First of all, thanks for the warm wellcome!

Thanks a lot for all the photos too. Yes, those pliers look exactly the same as mine and there shouldn't be any problem with them.

Sadly, I have to say that I have decided (and this time for real) to return the Spirit X. What has killed me is Juan's post and photos, do Spirit X boxes come wrapped in plastic? At this point I'm too paranoid about this being a B-Stock product to enjoy it, so I am going to return it an I will get it from another retailer.
The state of the multitool is nod really bad, but there is a noticeable play in the small screwdriver and in the can opener. Those tools are also in the side were one of the screws has the most noticeable hammer mark. Is the play of this multitool acceptable? Was that mark made in Victorinox's workshop durin assembling? I don't think this had anything to do with the customs officers, the multitool came in a box from Thomann, and those are like the boxes from Amazon. Completelly closed and you have to break the box in order to open it.
I don't know, I will opt for returning it and get a refund.

By the way, the box also has a date of 2021.

You have been super informative, friends. I thought that this would be the best place to get some good info about the Spirit X and it has been so. I thank you a lot for it.

Hope I will own a Spirit X again soon.

Best regards,
Djiaux.

Djiaux, so sorry for the news/feelings; may I suggest waiting a bit longer? Mind you this is the first time I buy a Victorinox product that came wrapped, as I've bought (8) products before and none has come like this one. I decided to post the box date, to see what the experience of others was and see if it was "a new thing for Vic"...
Anyhow, and just like Vicman stated,  the Spirit is a great tool that you'll love(/appreciate/cherish)!

Please, keep us (me!!!) posted and, good luck. :tu:

I have to say neither of my Spirits came wrapped in plastic (and one came from the London Vic store), and they’re both fine…..

The multitool is held together using rivets (remaches), not screws. I think that mark is to be expected, considering how rivets are assembled. Mine has even deeper marks because, after years of use, I tightened the rivets a bit.

Riiivets, that was the word (Srry for my broken english). When I was writing my post I couldn't remember how we called those, even in Spanish.

I already sent it back (I have to note here that Thomann has given me a great customer service as always). I hope I'm not being a pain-in-the-ass customer by having returned the product, in the end I would have kept it were it not for the small play in the 2mm screwdriver and in the can opener. But that, with the broken box ... I don't know, I got too paranoid (for sure, pain-in-the-ass-customer it is!).

Bottom line, the product box was broken on arrival (and I took photos immediately), so from a customer service point of view I guess returning it was justified.

I'm already looking in another retailer, most likely I will get another and will see in the new tool that maybe the little things that I found in this one were normal. But maybe not, I will come here and comment whatever it happens. Maybe this can be helpful to someone in the future?

Regards everyone, see you arround.

Hello everyone.

An update on my Spirit X ownership status.

After a looooooong return trip to the dealer, I got a refund for my Spirit X and ordered a new one from another retailer. This was last week and after three working days travel.... I finally have my new Spirit X.

: D
Oh, my. Did this took long or what?

The new Spirit X looks good on inspection, there are no tools that have a little play and the package was much better this time.
After receiving the new Spirit X and inspecting it, I think that I got too paranoid with the first one. The little play in two tools was probably something acceptable? I'm not sure, but anyhow, I'm much happier with the new one and I get to have the original box. This is what you expect when you get a Victorinox multitool.

Hope I will give it a lot of use and have it for many years.

Cheers everyone and thanks for the help you gave me.

Yes, you will! It is absolutely useful as a day-to-day/EDC tool; compact, purposeful, ergonomic, and, a gorgeous precision tool equally good at being used and  being looked at. Glad you were able to resolve the issue satisfactorily and hope you will enjoy yours, at least as much as I do mines!

Sure thing

Beautiful, isn't it? : )

When looking for the multitool I was between this one and the Swisstool X. No doubt this was the right option for me (small hands), but it is also the most beautiful. So compact, precise, curved...
