Hi all, I hate to be *that guy* that disappears for a long time and who’s first post back is a FS one, but here we are. Life has been very busy.
Anyway, I picked these up on eBay on a whim, and though nice I instantly remembered that I just don’t like 4 layer saks, or shelf queens, and I figured there may be some interest in them here.
I have 2 Vic BSA huntsman’s that are bnib, basically new old stock. They have the 4 line Vssr tang stamp with a big V, which SAK wiki says is 1986-1992. I believed these to be the earlier end of the range based on the boxes and “manuals,” the early 90’s would have the grey/silver Swiss army brands (SABI) boxes.
So, other than being 30+ years old and like-new, what makes these different than what’s currently available? Glad you asked! Here’s a list:
1. Stainless inlay BSA logo vs hot stamped foil
2. Solid cellidor scales vs hollow (you can feel the difference, much more solid)
3. No hook on scissors layer
4. Thick main blade tang. Modern are thin tang (same as the 84mm) with a bump in the liner that acts as a washer. This one has straight liners.
5. Screw scissor pivot vs rivet
6. Can key opener in backside Phillips driver
7. Key ring is on a liner-like spacer (similar to current 93mm) vs on a back spring.
Interestingly, the manuals are different on each, so there is probably a year or two age difference.
The only “issue” is that both have some minor box wear on the front scale. Not much, and could be polished out if it bothered someone.
They are truly new and unused, with what appears to be the factory oil on them.
I’d like to try to get $50 each shipped CONUS. I’ll ship internationally, but it’s gotten so expensive we’d need to work out cost.
If someone takes both, I’ll throw in a set of 91mm brown canvas micarta scales (bnip from DLT) for free.
