Actually it's just a rebadged redi-edge sharpener...  ::) It's supposed to have some BM-proprietary ceramic blades, but I wouldn't hold my breath...

There's a double-sided Diafold model that is Extra Fine/Ceramic that I've been eyeballing  :P - Link

I have quite a few of the Diafolds but I prefer the EZ lap products because they have solid plates. My favorite is the double-sided Medium/Super Fine - Link

I put these together last year using  6" DMT plates.

The front one is Coarse/Fine and the rear is Extra Fine/Leather Strop.

Mine too. Or if I'm in a pinch, the bottom of most any ceramic coffee mug or bowl.

MIke,

The bottom of ceramic coffee cups or bowls works decently if it's just a touch up. Though I was able to take a SAK from fairly dull to a working edge this way. On the ceramic coffee cups or bowls, I feel for a relatively smooth, bare ceramic edge to work with. Find one that doesn't have any (or too many) bumpy parts in it. Then just work it the best you can. I mean, all the cool kids do this. :D

My buddy's got a Carbee-Sharp sharpener http://www.carbee-sharp.com/ and I've gotta get one, too. Can ride your keychain and seems to be pretty well made. Blade magazine did a review on it and gave it kudos.

Another DC4 here. I like it and it's more abrasive than the Sharpmaker. You get there quicker on a blade with a really dull edge.  :tu:

I got a DC3 recently, and other than trying it out on a cheap knife, I haven't used it in anger yet.

The test went well though - I'm sure I won't need much more than this.

I used to come here a lot.

A note on the DC3/4's is that they feel incredibly rough to start with.  This does wear down quite quickly and you are left with a much more forgiving surface.
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

I found the pen type diamond rod doesn't work well for some reason, so just bought a lansky pocket hard arkansas stone. Tried it on kitchen pairing knife and it seems to work well, will have to wait and see if it works on harder steel.

On holiday's abroad i always take my complete Sharpmaker with me, together with a large coarse and medium sided diamondstone from Smith's Abrasives.
When i go into the forests surrounding my hometown i only take a Spyderco ProFile set and a Leatherman with diamond file,

 I was wondering if it would be a good idea or not to carry a smallish piece of leather rolled up for a on the go type strop

When I bought the remnant of leather for my strops that I made I have plenty enough to make another or 2 but I could cut a 3 inch by 9 inch piece and maybe add a leather string to it to roll it up and also to hook it to something for a strop :D

So what do you guys think :) Yes or no or what in the world is this guy thinking :pok: :D

I almost always wear a leather belt.  If I really felt the need I'd strop it on the back of that.  I can't say I've ever needed to though.

I always have a leather belt on me as well but I would almost rather carry the leather than take my belt off  :D

but this is why I asked the question thanks Gareth :tu:

The leather would be in my coat pocket and not in my pants pocket and I just wear that coat to work and then put a heavier 1 on when I get there so it's not like I will be carrying with me at all times just to have close by ;) should have mentioned that earlier as well ::) :D

Well I guess I may just stick with the belt :D I am gonna cut it out anyway and if I know I am gonna sharpen somebody else's knife or I am gonna sharpen a few blades elsewhere besides my house I may take it with the sharpener ;)

Thanks for all the input guys :D

This guy seems to be pretty good at sharpening :tu:

He uses his stone as the strop

and another of his videos he uses a concrete block and a piece of cardboard to sharpen a knife :D
