TL;DR answer:  Yes

The rest of the story:

It’s not actually the kydex that scratches the knife, as kydex is softer than knife steel.  However, the extremely tight fit of most kydex sheaths means that a small bit of dirt or a grain of sand that gets in the sheath has a good chance of being held against the blade with enough force to scratch it as it is removed from and returned to the sheath during normal use.  (Quartz, an extremely common mineral, is harder than knife steel.)

In spite of this issue, I personally have a strong preference for kydex over leather sheaths for fixed blades that I carry.  I like that the kydex is impervious to moisture, but most importantly, it is incredibly unlikely that the knife will cut through or penetrate a properly constructed kydex sheath in the event of an accident (e.g. falling on the sheathed knife).
I too prefer Kydex most of the time, since it does 'hold' moisture and I could keep the blade inside the sheath, regardless of steel, and not to worry about it rusting in storage.  But the falling on knife sheath 'issue' is a good call, more a reason for a kydex sheath.  The only potential drawback of a kydex sheath is if you carry the knife in extreme cold condition, then the sheath maybe too brittle to use?

Day 15
One of the few things that I didn’t like about the ATK was how slick the handle felt.  My other skeloton blades are powder coated and/or paracord wrapped, which helps them feel less slippery.  Because of the sheath.  A full 550 paracord wrap was not going to work on the ATK due to part of the handle going into the sheath, so I decided to try a gutted paracord wrap.  I think it is going to work nicely.

Nice looking wrap, and a good compromise with the gutted cord.  :tu:

Day 14

(Image removed from quote.)

A more pocket friendly carry with this forged kiridashi, wicked tip and a nice medieval feel to it, this one will likely repeat with the alternate custom leather sheath I have for it, but the kydex is more convenient to draw from.

Day 16:

No use for the CRKT Mossback Hunter, an adaptation of a Tom Krein design.

I felt $60 was too expensive when new. I got mine in late '19-early '20 when they were discontinued. The going price then was $25, and BladeHQ had a "defective" one with slight rust on the edge for under $20. The equivalent Tom Krein--about $500

I have used it a lot on the farm. It's pretty compact, fairly light, but robust. Unlike nearly all Mora knives, it has a lanyard hole. It's perhaps one of the largest in a knife I have, thus I don't have to worry about losing it.  Being SK-5, it's one of the few carbon steel CRKT small fixed blades (still don't get why we don't have an SK-5 Minimalist) that is offered in carbon steel.

The only thing I don't like is the sheath--it's sorta flimsy.

Great pictures and uses AWL for past few days.

Day 16 -

Some breakaway connectors arrived last week, and made work of testing to a paracord cut to fit over my XXL head.  Then looped through the end hole of a ISULA sheath to test NECK CARRY.
[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Carried under the shirt but over the T.

Went on a trail walk and did not notice the knife being there. If I wore a jacket, I would have place the knife on top of the shirt. I will experiment some more!!!
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Day 17
i switched to a knife my father made, probably sometime in 99 [i forget exactly when],he's retired from knifemaking these past few years.
i quite liked the size and scales [i really like micarta/phenollic handle scales],blade is 6mm thick N690.
i used it as a neck knife when i was into neck knives.
now, since i only wear cargo trousers,i pocket carry most fixed blades.
my younger brother-in-law [passed away in 03] loved the outdoors and was a fly-fisherman. we used this knife to gut a few trout we caught on our last trip together.

I agree.  I think ball chain is another good option.  I definitely want something that is going to break before I could accidentally hang myself or be strangled with it.

Yes; I’ve long felt a clip point was the best and most versatile option if you could have only one blade.  I’ve watched what appears to be the increasing popularity of lambsfoot, sheepsfoot, wharncliffe, and even cleaver-style blades with a level of bemusement.

Day 17 -

I tried a cordage slip knot, actually a couple, but they slipped loose after a few times removing the knife from sheath one handed.

Also, used and tested the ball chain, it was stronger and allowed one handed draw, but did leave a mark on back of neck before separating.

These couplers I found in the River site and held correctly for knife removal, yet if jerked firmly separated as expected.  I am in my 2nd day testing and wearing without issue.
