Day 27:

I went to Walmart this morning and didn't find anything I wanted from Matchbox or Hot Wheels. Hobby Lobby for years was the only place to buy Greenlight here, but they are located in a now pretty sketchy mall and are $2-3 more expensive. Walmart, about a year and a half ago, started carrying the Hollywood line only. I hadn't gone to Walmart in some time but started going back regularly in May, and have gone back several times up until now, hadn't seen any Greenlight models until today.

I found these two Greenlight models I'd been planning on buying online but didn't due to the brand's QC problems.

Unfortunately, both had defects that were hidden by the clam pack.

The F-150 has a tiny ding in the red paint above the bumper, the Cherokee has a badly fogged window unit, a crooked light bar, and a wonky lift kit.

:hatsoff: @ Nix,  Imust say your BLJ has grown on me!

but not enough to go fetch one!

And a similar one might be tough to find.

But....I've seen some "mini-cleaver" knives out there that might be pretty close...  :dunno:

I know, the only fixed blade I recall is a smaller model made by CRKT,  others have been folders.

I just am not a cleaver type.
I use my Buck lite max small for most heavy cutting of joints and tendons.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

I'm glad to see everyone trying to catch up.  I think it would be great if we could all finish on the 30th so as not to delay the drawing that everyone who finishes will be entered in.

Day 27
I was avoiding carrying knives that I had already carried in challenges because I already know what they are capable of.  Today, however, I needed to carry something good to make up for the BudK "survival neck knife" that I carried yesterday.  The Izula II got the nod, and helped open today's dinner of take out sushi.

SOS24 -- I'm really curious about your thoughts on the Buck 113.  :tu:

    i really think she luvs it, but just a guess, :2tu:

LoopCutter is right - I love it. To me it feels like a big brother to the BR Essential.  The handle shape and feel fit my hand perfectly.  The blade is a great size and shape for most tasks, not to mention real sharp right out of the box.

Well.....she quit using it....so......who knows?    :D
Thats just because I also really love the ATK, especially if going out and about.  Trust the 113 is going to see lots of use.

Not a lot of use today, but I’ve ended up liking this knife even more than I thought I would.  The blade seems larger than expected, plus being thin and sharp makes it great for lots of tasks.  It is just an awesome little life that easily disappears whether neck, pocket, or belt.

Day 26
i carried the Gerber prodigy today.
i "discovered" this knife when i noticed Stepehen Lang's character in Terra Nova wearing 1 on his leg in nearly every episode.
i enjoyed that show, and was disappointed when it ended. i bought the knife off amazon back then,i forget how long ago.
my son tried to "borrow" it,he already has my Seal Pup.
i really like the Prodigy [yeah i know, cheap steel and whatnot],it feels good in hand, the sheath has multiple options, and is  in that sweetspot of overall length [to me anyway].

A fellow fan here, I was surprised to see the show did get to continue.  A little off track here, but I actually like "Six" more than "Seal Team"(not in the military, so purely coming from spectacle point of view), and was sad to see it did get to continue after S2.

Day 26
Today I need to be discreet so it's going to be a neck knife.  This is basically a shiv that you used to be able to buy for $1.99 from BudK who sold it as a survival neck knife.  At some point I rounded off an order and got free shipping by adding this for less than shipping would have cost me.  I figured it would be a throw away, but I kept it.  Chisel ground, it came barely sharp enough to spread jam on toast, but I was able to file a cutting edge on it.  The fact that it could be sharpened with a file leaves some doubt about any sort of heat treatment, but it fits tight in the scabbard and is relatively comfortable in the hand, and as an added bonus the scabbard also has a whistle (don't judge me).
I was focusing on the knife more than the background(agree with Sos on the knife), but just pick up the title after browsing the post for the second time.  So what could one learn from this?  :pok:

In my teens, I was gifted a very similar styled knife, the wood was much lighter almost white, my parents thought it to be a novelty knife, but I knew it was very sharp🙄

I am not sure if it is at my home where I grew up, or if it survived my dad’s house cleaning back when?   He burned all my baseball cards and comic books after I did not return home from college and brothers said they did not want😢

Is it noted on the knife if it is a limited edition?

I like the color of that one and is guessing it is a 511 work knife.

I have a 1 (4”) in route after securing on the auction site. Wood handle!  This not a 1/0, that size is a shorter blade. I just like the Mora styles, as well as the price.  I used for work cutting cable coverings in the winter, sheathes fitted inside bibs leg pocket and no need to remove gloves in sub freezing temps to access. Bright colors, too. And always sharp.

By the label, I think they call this 546 but essentially probably just the same shape as the 511, but with different steel(this is stainless).  I love all things Mora(or at least most majority of it), such good value.

This summer I learned that it fits perfectly in a 113 Ranger Sheath, it increased its usefulness, now each one has a leather sheath including the previous version.

I want a CUSTOM 113 bad, but can not justify the price when I compare the two as both have 420HC steel (stock 113) and they took away the S35VN option.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

There is an S30V option for the 113..... S35VN and S30V are really similar in many ways. S30V might have the edge in edge retention, S35VN has a tad more toughness. (I think that's so....) To be honest, I can't really tell the difference in real world use.
And keep in mind, S30V was specifically developed as a knife steel! So many of our steels were developed for other purposes, e.g. 5160 for truck springs, D2 as a tool steel, 154CM for aerospace purpose, etc.....
So, you'll never catch me turning up my nose at an S30V blade!  :D

I spoke with a fellow from Buck a few days ago, he hinted that 2023 might see some 117 options coming out. The 117 is, in my mind, a 102 with a larger handle--an instant favorite with me. I will definitely be saving some pennies for an eye catching 117.  :dd:

I agree, from my experience I have found S35VN holds an edge very well AND has been much easier to restore that edge to hair splitting sharp.
S30V holds a edge equally well, and like you said and I agree a bit better.
But once that fine edge is lost it is much more difficult to restore it to it finest.
I will admit, I do not have the best skills at sharpening, I rely on my tools, but I have had finger slicing experience with S35VN and Buck’s 420HC, not so with S30v.  Then I may not have the patience 😜

A 117?   That will be interesting.

I recall back in the day, when venturing out for a hiking trip, camp out or a camp hunt, you would anguish over ammunition, gun and if rain gear is needed.

Today, we may spend 2 hours or more deciding which edge will serve me proper, and then say heck I take two or three in the pack and one on my belt.

Funny, a few days ago, met a buddy for a hike to see if the eagles had moved to southern edge of the Marsh.  My Buddy was 30 minutes late!  Said he had trouble deciding which boots. He chose wrong, we are hiking a marsh, rubber would have been better.  His leathers were not tall enough and his soaks added 2lbs plus inside boots. Fortunately it was mid 70s.

To many choices.

I think I read it from Jacknife that a friend from the knife industry had once told him 90% of all the steel 'chase' are just market hype.  I still remembered those days when S30V was the be-all end-all knife steel of the century, and it will cut thru anything like a light saber with no hesitation.  Funny many modern knife 'enthusiasts' will now probably look at S30V like an average steel.

Day 28

This day I am going to touch upon a couple of items.

One - an update of progress made
[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

My Lego Bonsai is now erect and even appears to have greenery.  Today received my COVID booster, told to stay quiet😔. Working on attaching leaves and assembly of the pink/while foliage branches.  Smaller parts = risk of short patience so no cursing, stay quiet🙄

Two.  Yesterday Comis peaked my interest with Mora special editions!   So explored their web site review multiple pages and gathering info and low and behold I found a answer to a question I had asked myself numerous times.

Ever noticed the the Crown / oars emblem on front of certain sheaths?
[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Well, it turns out that their working knives are intended to be mated together for tasks, so they can be kept organized😉

Maybe everyone already knew this, but I am bored and wanted to share😁🫡 😎

S35vn is one of my favorite steels specifically because of it being great at holding an edge while still fairly easy to sharpen.
