Remember, remember the FIRST of SAKtember!
on: September 01, 2022, 01:18:43 PM
With all due respect to Guy Fawkes (and who couldn't respect a guy that tried to blow up the government?  :D) this is the first day of SAKtember and I am issuing a challenge to everyone here!

SAKs only- no leather goods, no baby foods or anything soggy, nothing made on a bench to squash spiders in Columbia.

The new, SAKtember 2022 challenge starts now, and I am honoring the first with a single bladed Sentinel!

Is this a 30-days 30-SAKs kind of deal?

Carrying an Explorer Plus this week, the last of the "big 3" 91mm four layers I hadn't given much pocket time to. I think I like slightly slimmer profile on the Huntsman/Fieldmaster more, but I'd certainly never be upset to have this with me.

Anything Vic, right? I’m not gonna pretend there’s anything else in my pocket aside from this. I’m re-discovering the beauty of a tool without having to worry about extra bits or add-ons.

It’s actually September 2 here so here’s SAKtember day 2!

Just washed this little guy after helping on the breakfast table.

It’s the 2nd most-used SAK in the house.  Add to the fact that the kids aren’t afraid of using it coz of the negligible resistance of the back spring.

It’s a beater knife as can be seen on the mismatched scales.

I see all of your Solos and I raise you....

A lot!   :D

It's the second day of SAKtember and I thought what better way to continue than with the Victorinox Champion.

The Champion was the original "big" Swiss Army Knife and started a whole line of tools called Champ, from the keychain sized MiniChamp to the 111mm WorkChamp, and several models in between.

Find out what makes this Champion worthy of owning with SAKWiki.com!  https://sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Champion

This sounds like a great idea - SAKtember - Love it

And love all the Wiki references - especially the Champion - That page has had a lot of work done on it in the last few years
So any feedback or suggestions very welcome.

PS. I am pretty sure Guy Fawkes was November   ;)   :o

Well I just had to post this Wenger I managed to pick up a couple of days ago

I am very fond of Wenger and particularly their whacky Wenger tools - So even if they weren't the greatest success commercially - They were absolutely inspired creatively - and of course great for collectors .

And this little baby has not got one of them ..... it's got four - and also beautiful scales to boot

Happy days
I just wish I smoked cigars and played golf

PS. This from the man who five years ago vowed he was not buying any more SAKs!!

Nicr SAKs, y'awl. And I never expect the "I'm not buying anymore SAKs" thing to work.

Day 2

I'm going green today. This Classic came to me with worn black scales. Were they not personalized with a previous owner's initials, I might have kept them. But I think the green looks exceptionally good.

SAKtember day 2.

Backstory on this Wenger:  Back in 2018, my brother Jeff passed (may he rest in peace).  A short while later this knife shows up for sale on eBay, I thought it was a sign of him saying hi.  So of course I bought it and it is very sentimental to me.  :hatsoff:

Day 2

I definitely have enough for 30 days, the real question is if I can do it without doubling up on stuff like "this is my red Spartan, this is my wood Spartan."

Trying for 30 different models, and today is my most carried model for this year, the 74mm Executive, with its trademark orange peeler. This guy has been my steadfast companion through most of the challenges I did this year, and it was always nice to have a familiar fallback.

The end of the 74mm line is a real shame, I think they were the ideal size for keychains. More knife and scissors than a 58, but not as bulky as an 84. The file is one of Vic's best (very slightly edged out by the 84mm one) and the tip of it is perfect for tiny electronics screws. The orange peeler does peel oranges pretty well, but mine sees more use as a package opener. The "gut hook" on the inside is just sharp enough and easy to clean. I've used the screwdriver tip a few times, and I appreciate the reach, even if I'm often afraid I'm going to snap it in half. It looks so thin. The only tool on here that I don't love is the smaller blade. On the bigger knives, I get it, but having a "third" (counting the peeler) blade that's so tiny feels a little pointless. On the other hand, the only other tool I can think of to fit there would be the 58mm divot fork (maybe the tiny Wenger awl or glasses SD), so I guess I should be thankful for getting some utility out of the half layer.

It's a damn shame we'll never get the much requested 74mm Rambler. I wonder what a 74mm combo tool would've looked like. Scaled up version of the 58? Or could something like the 84/91mm version have squeezed in there? Adding a can/bottle opener would make this pretty much the perfect small SAK.

I’ve been carrying this Cybertool-S a lot lately, especially for football.  It’s by far the most pocketable SAK featuring the fantastic bit driver, and being a SAK it’s sheeple-friendly enough for me to pull it out and use it at a practice or game without having anyone complain to the authorities.
