A couple things for people trying to snap up an Exec for the challenge, from someone who bought too many after they got disco'd a yearish ago.

1. Don't pay more than $35 (including tax, shipping, etc.) for a used Executive (at least in the continental US). If you get lucky, $25 total isn't undoable, but I  wouldn't go above $35. In general, the parts on the Exec most prone to damage are the scales (like most SAKs) and the file. If those two look to be in good shape, it's probably a good buy. New will obviously go higher, but I wouldn't pay the $70+ I see some sellers asking. New ones do seem to be available at or near MSRP from some Euro retailers, but the supply seems to have mostly dried up on this side of the pond. Check with your FLKS.

2. I'm seeing a lot of keyring-less versions popping up lately. I think 74mm is an ideal keychain MT size, so I would skip on those unless you're after it for something other than EDC (advertising collection, etc.). Even if you're not normally big on keychain carry, might as well try it for a week as part of the challenge.

Outstanding points, especially on pricing.  Of course I would have loved to have one, NIB, but certainly couldn't go with asking prices.  Even some used are ridiculously over priced.

Patch showed up here  last year with a couple issues with the scales.  Instead of sourcing new scales I simply made repairs with some JB Weld, which worked out fine for me.

For anything without keyring nibs I like to use pouches/slips with a D-ring attachment.  Makes a great Keyring and the knife can be removed easily.

3. If anyone is having trouble getting one, I'm still down to play quartermaster. Drop me a PM and we'll work something out.

Hmmm. This looks interesting Nix. Of course I do want to carry my 84mm Christmas LE Sportsman on 25th  but I think we’ve had this conversation …  :pok: Maybe I’ll get a dispensation this year?

I think we allowed a cheat day last year, so long as there is a make-up day on the 31st. Yeah?

Alright, I’ve got my Executives cleaned, sharpened, and the scales replaced on the one where the originals were practically falling off the knife.

I’m ready to go! (And a little sad/nervous about not having my constant companion, the Rambler, in my pocket for the whole month of December).

I've had my MiniChamp on me constantly since I had the covid the first time, excluding last year's challenge.

I certainly wish Victorinox would have made a midichamp on the 74mm frame after carrying the executive for a month.

Done a bit of limbering up making a little cardboard cut-out for a bit of fun with my Executive and the emergency blade on my MiniChamp (It's Monday folks) with my Waiter for the less detailed cuts.

Well, I'm a bit miffed.....

I am certain I have a NIB Executive stashed somewhere. I thought I would get it out for this challenge, but I can't find it!

It is always possible I gave it away, but it bugs that I may have lost temporarily mislocated it.

Nevertheless, I found my primary Exec and am challenge ready!  :tu:

There’s an easy way to find that Executive. Just buy another one!

The one you lost should reappear right after the replacement arrives! That’s usually how that works.

And then Nix you really could be Quartermaster here. At the moment I’m feeling you’ve one hand tied behind your back with that job.

Edit. Does Mrs Nix know you have one NIB? just asking … they are jolly handy after all …

Someone got an awesome deal on this one.  I followed it on the eBay and it went for $12.00 + $8.00 shipping.
