NEW Victorinox Foldable Paring Knife (how about a saw?)

Has anyone checked out the new folding paring knife?  I've got the serrated version and it's just great (like a folding version of the tomato knife).  The blade is over 4 inches long and the whole package weighs only 1.5 ounces.  It even includes a liner lock.  It's especially great for gardening or food (I could see taking it to a restaurant, as a backup).  Victorinox claims that you can put it in the dishwasher.  It has no point, which makes it poor for utility use (also weird for a "paring knife").  But that also means I don't expect to get fined if I'm in a city with restrictions on blade length.  Another downside -- the liner lock is not the easiest for someone with poor hand strength (at least out of the box, a female friend could not use it).

My other thought -- this would be a great vehicle for a Victorinox saw.  You could easily fit one of their largest saws in this frame (replacing the knife blade), without weighing down your pockets.

Thanks for the many review on the knife.  I was curious about it.

The saw idea is a cool one.  Wonder if Vic is listening

Great idea! Unfortunately the whole assembly (blade and liner-lock) are formed together with the handle during production, so it's impossible to modify

But as part of a new series of products, Victorinox may look at expanding the options - we can hope!

Much like the Opinel No. 12, it could be offered as a knife or a saw.

wow is this the only thread on the knife?
I'm interested in buying.
my concerns:
yeah it caht be disassembled for annal maintenance. (i dislike this construction but most other vinox knives caht be disassembled with a screwdriver either, so no news)
how easily can it be cleaned?
Are the serrations perfectly sharpened OOTB or can you detect maculates on some teeth?

i have enough ruby rods to sharpen big or small teeth, so I'm not concerned about sharpening.

I have a couple of these.  I haven’t gotten a lot of use out of them yet, but they seem like a handy option to toss in a picnic basket, mess kit, lunchbox, etc.

Running them through the dishwasher in the open position seems to be fine for cleaning.

I got the PE ones rather than SE, so can’t really comment on the serrations, other than to say I’m sure they are of typical Vic quality.

We use the non-folding versions in the kitchen and and bought more when we liked them so much.  Then I got the folding version and it was stolen by my wife for permanent lunchbox use.  Fruit, avocados, sandwiches, whatever - all fall easy prey to these.  The serrations stay effective for years with regular use.  I just ordered another folder to keep in the car.

Edit:  We got the first two in 2018, a set of 6 more in early 2021, and the folder in March 2021.  So the oldest have almost 4 years and are the most used (bright colors, vs 6 black-handled).

Some Fav's: long nail file models, vintage unusual stainless
Quirk: I like the metal file more than the wood saw

When I bought mine, I bought one for my wife so I wouldn't lose mine.  ;)  They're great knives.

Kale, I was once told to cut couplings off of decommissioned canvas fire hose.  We tried a few saws that didn't perform well, then I grabbed a bread knife from the firehouse kitchen and it cut through the hose easily.  I'm not going to sacrifice mine, but I'll bet the serrated blade is a better saw than many might think.

Even if they are, and agree with you, don't expect anything in the next 10 years... Vic is sloooowwwww when it comes to new stuff. :D
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.
