FLAIR – Flea market find of a year 😊
on: March 27, 2023, 08:48:28 AM

New, never used Leatherman FLAIR, no scratches, no bite dents on plier jaws, everything working, there was just a few rust spots and pliers were stiff – but everything is clean and fine working now.
Date code says october 1999, so first year of production.
No original sheath.
But: the price was 5 € 😊 😊 😊

What does »E« and »2« stamps on phillips screwdriver mean?

Greetings, Samek

I just noticed - there are two different date codes inside the handles - 1099 and 0999 - and number fonts are different. Anyone knows why?

An awesome find :woohoo: Congratulations  :salute: :like: :like:

The 2 date codes just means the handles were made in September 99 and October 99 :tu: not sure why the fonts are though

Looks so nice  :like:

If you want to double your money, let me know :)

As pointed above, the handles can be/are made at different times (and stamped) and the assembly line workers just put them together, from the various boxes. It is common with LM models.

As for the other markings they could be internal markings of LM, possibly to aid assembly or show which machine made them. I think this was discussed before, possibly with regards to the, similar, PST, but I do not remember exactly what was said.

FOUND IT:

Hi,

I believe you'll find that the Phillips screwdrivers are investment cast.  The letters or numbers are formed in the wax core that is the first step of making an investment casting.  The difference speak to different wax molds and are useful to identify which mold was used to make the wax.

It may be interesting for you to google investment casting & learn more about the process.

Best - Joe

Nice find!

Yeah, it's a fake! Sorry to break it to you. I've sent you my address so you can send it to me for disposal.

Greetings, Samek

The E and 2 mean you should send the Tool to some random dude in Michigan, USA.

Grats on the sweet score.
