First mod - hole size effect on spring strength?
on: April 25, 2023, 05:25:02 PM
Ive made knives for years but this is my first time working on SAK's. I am making 4 knives for my sons & nephews. I got Hikers for doner knives and I am going to mill custom titanium scales for them. I'm struggling with making the decision on what hardware to use. My question is this: If I drill out the 2.2mm pin holes in the springs for 1/8" barrel pivots will there still be enough meat to function reliably? Has anybody tried this and had the springs fail because too much material was removed? I prefer threaded fasteners to rivets*

Thank you!

P.S.- Where are you sourcing your hardware?????????

Welcome to the boards Chop.

Yes there is enough metal left to function reliably.
I haven't had one fail and I don't recall hearing anyone else having one fail.
