Hey awl, I just got my first OPINEL today. I am a total newb, but I am liking what I am experiencing with the new knife. I am sure it won’t be my last.

You need the opinel cheese knife....I had to  round the tip on mine, as kept on stabbing myself, works brilliantly now for all kitchen tasks



It's close to a trade knife in style, I really like it and highly recommend  :D

I'm really intrigued by opinels, I think they're beautifully simplistic. I've got 5 of them but never carry them, kind of bothers me. I don't know what it is and I'm hoping this challenge changes that. I've got pouches to carry them and have thought about getting that pocket clip attachment to carry one that way. I've carried traditional knives so I don't know where the disconnect is.

Thought just popped in my head, we need a Mercator/Douk-Douk challenge

I guess it all depends on your use case. If you need something more robust to use outside Opinels may not be the best choice. However based on my experience carbon Opinel is best for use in kitchen and around house. Slicing fruits and foods and this kind of stuff - I don’t know about better folder than Opinel.

It has been my experience, the Carbon blades transfer a metallic taste to my fruits and veggies, along with pork and chicken items.
I prefer Stainless for my kitchen use.

The transfer maybe less if a nice PATINA has been created on a CARBON blade.

I do find my CARBoN blades retain their edges much better than SS.
