Just hoping I remember to post each day… I’ve the memory of a goldfish.
No worries, Steve.  If you miss a day or two because you forgot, were too busy, or whatever, you can always catch up later in the challenge.  This typically happens to me at least a few times every challenge.

The Goldfish reference, that was a take away from Ted Lasso?

Ha ha, no never seen Ted Lasso, just a saying I’ve grown up with.

Good idea re the alarm…. :hatsoff:

Day 1

Here’s my small collection of Opinels.  Nos. 12, 10, 8, and 5.

Will I be able to make it through the challenge without buying more?  Only time will tell.

I’ve eyed up the No. 8 Outdoor, No. 12 Outdoor, and No. 9 DIY.  But…

I’m not wild about the CE blade on the No. 8 Outdoor.  If there was a PE option, I’d own one already.

I wish they had left off all the extra smurf on the No. 12 Outdoor and either shortened the handle or lengthened the blade.

The No. 9 DIY is a bit on the small side for my taste, and not my preferred blade shape.

Plus, while still priced very reasonably compared to many competitors, all three of these are on the expensive side for Opinels.

It's funny, I'm in the opposite position on the 12. It's a larger knife than I like to carry, but I'm thinking about picking it up since the extras interest me. I really wish we could get something in the middle of the range (7-9) with the whistle, hook/cutter, and (if I'm really wishing) an option of the tweezers, firestarter, or bits. No reason they couldn't make the accessories fit in a 1/4" bit slot, right? Not really the kind of thing Opi makes, but a man can dream...

I just luv what you did to your handle on the ‘9’🌹

And, the coffee mug❤️. Looking for a clean mug with an orange  :Dinner  color as that!!! 16 ounces?

Thanks man, I am really liking it. I did some firemaking this evening and am getting a feel for the 9 . (Pics to come)

The mug is actually from a local record store so their logo is on the other side. Its a nice piece, 16oz. Your collection is quite nice, I may be in a similar place by the end of the month  :D
I think I am going to order the hawksbill first and maybe one other.

Well, the No. 8 Outdoor already has the whistle, and you’re not going to cut anything with the hook that couldn’t be cut with the blade, so you would be a chunk of the way there with that.

Just realized the No. 12 Outdoor weighs in at 8 ounces, which is double the weight of the standard No. 12, and also too heavy for what it is IMO.

Tbh Barry I got them to complete the set :pok: they’re too small to be much use to me but you know what it’s like  :D

The great thing about Opi’s is you can get a complete set for less than one knife from some other brands

Personally sizes 6 - 9 are my sweet spot, 7 and 8 particularly

How do you like that No. 8 Outdoor?  I’ve been considering one, but the CE blade is a bit of a turnoff for me.

Day 2

My DIY arrived Friday, and this morning I need a slight bit of makeup before a picture!

With my first Walnut handle, a No6!, I just like how it carries in the pocket.
[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

And,  a question that has bugged me since my first package arrived last fall.   With this No6 and any knives that arrived individually in envelopes!

Awl packaging indicate “Made in France” except the envelopes?
[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

I know the folk in France are a very proud lot, but ins’t there a ENVELOPE MAKER/PRINTER in FRANCE?

I have Outdoors model too!  The combo blade make sense to me, as the  SE blade portion can easily slice through ROPE in an emergency situation, as this is an emergency style knife that added function is practical.
Same reason I like my MultiTools with both a plain edge and a serrated edge.  Just MHO😉

It is a nice feature of the Opinel wood handles.

I was actually introduced to the idea by 2ndchancegeorge on YouTube, he has several modded Opinel’s with custom sheaths as well. 😉. Fun
