I'm sorry you didn't win in the Leap challenge, but I believe your luck is turning around.  PM your address, and I'll send you an Opinel #8.   :hatsoff:

I'll need to know:
Stainless or Carbon blade
Beechwood plain or with a color like green, red, burgundy, blue, dark brown.

Lisa, your generosity is truly remarkable.

Since someone is bound to ask, I will tell you what I decided about the Opinel gift from friend Folder Beholder.  I told her I would be better satisfied if she didn't send me anything.  Why?  It didn't feel right.
When I joined this site, one of the first people to greet me was Sherry (Sos24).  She invited me to ask for the surprise box.  Didn't know me.  I told her that I didn't feel like I had earned that right.  I would feel like I was sponging off of Lisa by accepting some gain over a joke I made about homemade knives or tools.
That's the whole story.  I can live with it.  Best wishes to all.  G

It seems like I have kicked over the bee hive by accident with some comment I made.  I have a request.  Please don't send me anything.  I'm happy with things the way they are.  I can't get any deliveries here except by mail.  Can not.
I appreciate the friendship and the spirit of giving.  I know what an exceptional place this is.  But don't send me anything.  Best wishes.  Gary

Opinel '24 Day 4
I thought I would like the garden knife because of the tapered handle but I find it a bit thin for my comfort.  The walnut No 8 is more comfortable to me since I shaved the hump off the back of the handle. That hump raised a hot spot in the heel of my hand that I found intolerable.

I did something similar to a No9, also  took down the lower side to allow pulling the blade w/o the nail nick  and added an indent for my middle finger. Fits either hand  for control.

Laying next to a No8 for shape comparison.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

I have to agree with what has been said here about the forum, the kindness is obvious and freely given.

I joined the forum to take part in the classic challenge after stumbling across a Leatherman MUT mod....I was welcomed in and felt like one of the regulars....the only shame in it all is that I live in the UK so unlikely to meet some of the new friends...

....Anyway....

DAY 5

Food prep time again, the stainless No 8 jumps into action, harvesting rouge rocket, and skinning a wild citrus...only to be upstaged by the opinel cheese knife stabbing pastry, in what will be the second pie made this week....

As I am relatively new to the forum I am also really pleasantly surprised about the community here. Happy to see that there are still very nice people in this world. (Hope you are people behind the nicks and not AI and robots :) )

Anyway, day 5, used my no.9 to cut apple for my breakfast porridge.

Heywood Floyd Nice Amphi! And very interesting band. May I ask what is it?

Day 4
Cut some frozen dog food for the pup.  They sell what is supposed to be the same food as kibbles, but Fisher only likes the pucks.

 Swiss is good for sure. I’m partial to most cheeses tbh, currently got a nice parmigiano reggiano and some gruyere on the go too

The generosity around here is unparalleled, cheers to everyone who has sent gifts and items. I have been the recipient of a gift as well and am thankful to have such a community.

I was also curious about that, it looks comfortable but thin on the back side. The blade shape is nice as well so it is tempting. Your rounding of the hump mod looks a lot like what I did on my 9 and I have found it fits in my hand perfectly.

Nice! That rocket looks delicious!

So many good food pictures I need to visit the thread only around meal time to avoid excessive snack cravings.

Day 5

Here is my new 7 about 1/2 customized and hanging with an EDC pouch. I guess I am old school in that pocket clips just don’t work for me. I have tried them on everything as seen here. This is my mini screwdriver clip which happened to fit nicely. I am once again giving it a fair shake as I would like to clip this in my shirt pocket at times, and maybe my pants pocket to keep it upright and ready. Is it an abomination?  :twak: I think so, maybe its low enough profile to get a pass once I figure out the treatment of  the handle.   [ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Thanks Tony, the lanyard came with the knife when I got it. I was ambivalent about it when I got it, but after carrying my OPINEL in a pocket sheath, it makes pulling the knife from the sleeve so much quicker and easier. I wouldn’t say I am a convert to having a lanyard on my no.8, but I do appreciate its convenience.

Nice setup....all us Brits want to be Bond, James Bond  :twak:

unfortunately it is very knife unfriendly here in the. UK...even a SAK classic was looked upon unfavorably at a first aid course I was at last Saturday..... :dunno:

I am veterinary surgery trained for medium livestock, so know how to use a knife, but I got a bit of abuse from the other attendees when I recommend that every parent should carry a small UK legal knife, and the reasons why.

That opinel would have you in front of a court.....sad  times.
