Day 15

Invited to a hike brunch on Sunday.  Broke out my never used Picnic kit, to wash up the utensils.

[ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ]

I will be dining in style😁. Now looking for my collapsible bowl🙄. Paper plates are pain and food is serious business!!!

PS: I know it has been called out before, The Utensils do not fit the No8 Explorer, as the blade pivot is to wide. For planning Opinel!🥲

Do the fork and spoon fit the No8 garden knife?  I have kind of asked it for my birthday.... hopefully they do...?

Day 15

No 8 fits just about perfect in the "knife pocket" of my utili-kilt. Last day of work before St. Patrick's, so a couple of the guys were wearing some kind of kilt. Would love to get a more traditional one someday, but gotta save up the money to do it right.

Do the fork and spoon fit the No8 garden knife?  I have kind of asked it for my birthday.... hopefully they do...?

Good question and was SHOCKED 🤨  when it did not.

It appears the knife blade does not sit as low in the handle as on a traditional 8. So the long tang does not seat into the gap along side the blade.

I suspect if I pull my lanyard line out and then cut down the inner grove I can get the blade to ride lower into the handle.  The collar, and ring are the same size.  The blade is a different shape.

Will report back tomorrow!
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Yes please, and with a picture if you could....looks like I will need to take apart my older opinels to modify, as asked for the picnic set without the knife and the garden knife separately.... assuming it would fit

DAY 16

Things didn't go to plan yesterday, so is a coffee shop, waiting to collect my youngest daughter from ballet, perfect time to mark out the holes that need to be punched for the leather wallet.

The old No7 is supervisor.... making sure I do a good job

Day 16

I am loving the No 7 size. I love how light weight and compact it is. It did a lot of fire prep and carving before this shot in the mullein.   [ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

The blade’s tang is identical, the blade shape is different!

The entire length of the handles channel must be cut into for the blade to be lower for the tang to be positioned f mm for insertion of the implements.

Awl of my traditional No8s work,, just the sport and garden. It will take me some time to cut into the channel, will dig out my Dremel later, in route to choir sing for grandson’s performance
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

I´m not in the challenge but I like to show off my Opinel collection.  :D

My favorites are the #8 gardener and #12 serrated (even if it doesn´t fit in my pocket).

Well, I filed out the blade nest and only gained a margin of depth to lower the blade into the handle.

Made no difference on how far the implements insert, long tang is blocked.

Took the gardener apart, and the pivot tang is the issue. I cannot see a difference but there is a difference, the implement will not slide onto the bottom of the pivot tang.

I will need a normal No8 to be an interchangable handle for fork and spoon and my No8 Gardener will cut food parcels to bite size morels🙄
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

That is a nice solution to keep them closed. Mine do have the closed lock, but it will be a whole different ballgame once the action is loose enough that the blade can move on its own.
Your wallet is looking good, I can’t wait to see the final product.
Wallet is finished :-)
