Day 5

 :waving:

I am not a normal user of scissors on my Multi-Tools, my normal EDC does not and I carry a Vagabond as part of my EDC.

Now I realize, my scissors see little use as businesses have moved to digital coupons or online purchases via membership apps etc.

Just returned from store after retrieving a scrip and picked the newest weekly add to select the coupons, digitally

You're right, I didn't even think about that.  I used to help my grandparents and parents clip coupons with my Huntsman scissors.  You don't see many paper coupons anymore

Day 5

Pretty happy to carry the Spirit regularly for this challenge. I already did carry it a lot and I think I’ve hit a spell of uses for this challenge than my previous ones.

Been trouble shooting the water heater lately trying to diagnose a bad thermostat, element, fuse, etc. Opened it up with the Phillips and adjusted the temp with the 2mm flat to kick on the elements.

Also helpful is my Olight

Tools used thus far:
Serrated blade x1
Scissors x2
Pliers x1
Saw x1
Spear point blade x1
Phillips x2
Pry bar x2
2mm flathead x1

Used the knife to open the packing for the clip I ordered. Yes, I ordered a black clip. My preference for pocket carry. I kinda dig the look and I think it will be a game changer for carrying the spirit.

I like that!  The black clip will blend in better and the Spirit is thin enough to carry well on a clip.

Day Five[/glow]

Today I used My Spirit to lend a helping hand replacing a belt and a burnt up spindle on an Altoz mower at work.

Tried to get action shots but i needed 4 hands as it was.  ::)

Hooked blade was used to cut old belt off. Needle nose used to get bearing cap off. That $380 spindle was toasted.

The two most-used knives in my kitchen are Victorinox, and they're the best stainless kitchen knives I've owned.  7.7403.20G and 6.8520.17G

I have a handful of carbon knives, Ontario and Boker, that are great as well.

I have a set of Vic steak knives, that I use for paring and general cutting duties - the serrated blades have remained sharp for years. Also have a Vic serrated Buter Blade type knife and use it all the time too. I really like all of them...

That black clip does look classy!  Like a black tie  on a tuxedo.

Great share. 👍

For opening clam packs, have you tried the sharp edge of the can opener?  It should pull through with less pressure and better control.

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Used the Butterblade to slice open numerous letters, all requiring attention.
Hopefully nothing bad. Most of the letter-type mail I receive goes straight into the paper shredder.

I’ll start this challenge today as my 36th new year starts
Happy belated birthday!

Day 6

As Coco has really bad arthritis I’ve had to cover the floors with yoga mats to stop her slipping, a job they do well even if the completely random colours and designs do look pretty odd….another couple bought and opened

Haven’t tried that. I’ll give it a go next clam pack I run into.

That's a great idea!  I never thought about yoga mats.  They're definitely anti slip.

More moon cake eating for me today, this tread is gonna continue on for probably a few more days.

Spirit scissors are not bad, but I really do prefer the 91mm scissors more (maybe I am just more used to it).  I can't recall exactly but IIRC, was it McStitchy that made the Spirit scissors mod, which made it open wider?  I was hoping by now Vic should have caught on with that, if we can't have 91mm scissors in Spirit, at least do that same mod to make it open wider.

It almost seems like they're meant to be more snips than scissors.  They're definitely heavy duty cutters.

Yes, and that's exactly why I like them--that and the heavy-duty non-replaceable spring.  I owned an "S" model at one time and sold it promptly because I missed those awesome scissors.  I certainly wouldn't want Victorinox to replace all of the SAK scissors with this design, but I think they're very well matched to a plier MT.

Happy belated birthday in_sympathy. Mid 30s is a good time.

Dan and Barry, I love getting junk mail or having the odd bill once it’s posted… an excuse to sit out by the fire.

Lots of great uses everyone. I’m enjoying the novel uses like BPR trying to prune with the wire cutter. The technique probably would work on other materials or thinner branch. I haven’t got to use the chisel tip yet, but that’s one of my favorite tools on the Spirit. Leatherman really needs to adapt a similar tool.

Several folks using the scissors and liking them. I think they work great for cutting Velcro, thick tapes and plastics, but not so much fine detail.

Edit: agreed with Barry and NS! Looks like we’re all of similar thought processes today.

Heavy duty is definitely true, I guess it does boil down to difference between heavy duty vs fine detail.

TBH, I always feel Spirit is probably the tool I'd like to have in a wilderness emergency situation, at least the shinny exterior will be good for signaling.

Exactly GB!  We used to start the fire in the furnace with junk mail and still use it to light a fire in our fire ring out back.  Nothing better than that!
