Day 17

Spent some quality time looking up close at my spear point Spirit… to distract me to keep from buying an Arc.

Anyways I’ve been using the Spirit a lot and wanted to document how well it’s holding up.

Blade and scissors have some scratches and nicks but still wicked sharp. I haven’t had to touch up the blade as of yet. The saw “saw” some hard use last summer processing fire wood and sparking a ferro rod so it’s got some marks. The awl has also seen some use and isn’t as sharp as I’d like it, but it’s always been that way.

The Philips, pry bar, and can opener (including 3mm driver) have seen a lot of use as have the pliers. And the shiny exterior is showing its age.

Otherwise, no use today.

Another day of no use. Hoping things pick up at work. Swapped out the ink on my side click. Pic for fun. Thinking I need a life.

Day 17

Scissors cut some moleskin for blisters. I also weighed my Spirit BB and confirmed it is 7.4 ounces.

Day 18

Wouldn’t be a challenge without me posting a gratuitous Australian red triangle slug compared with MT pic, and as it was raining this morning here it is :)

Used the pliers to remove the tab off a bottle, ended up having to punch a hole through to get it off

And opened a letter

Great photo and nice seeing you stop by.

LC, thanks for doing this.  I remembered weighing it against Charge and/or Wave, but I'm sure there are probably even lighter mid size tool such as Skeletool that I've missed too. :D

Oh, btw, you've mentioned in previous post that plain edge Spirit is going to be phrased out?  Did you remember where did you get that news?  I love the plain edge, and would hate to see that go. :-\
I remember doing a spreadsheet comparing weights and tools of MTs once for determining which I wanted to get when I was new to MT.  That was one of the reasons I originally purchased a Rebar.

Is there anyone present that actually does EDC a Spirit?
I don’t edc carry my Spirit, because in general I just pocket carry a 2-3 layer SAK, usually an 84mm Voyageur.  Although, if I’m carrying a bag then I have a Spirit.

I didn’t think anyone would want to see an in use picture of tightening a toilet seat, so instead a glamour shot

Hopefully carrying a Spirit saved you some money GB :D. I saw the Arc's release too.  Great idea posting those pics.

Day 18: My apologies for my infrequent appearance the last couple of days.  Putting in a lot of hours at work this week.

Spirit in a vanity picture with my favorite cup!

I am still waiting for a chance to buy the ARC, but I am thinking the only advantage ARC has over the Spirit MX probably is the magnetic retention.  But otherwise, Spirit MX is really quite a perfect MT for me.

After seeing the slug for so many times in different challenges, I still have to say it again, this still is the biggest slug I have ever seen in my life!

A quick pic before I hit the road.  I'm already 5 days behind because of my travels and now I have to head out again and may not be able to post for 2 or 3 days.  I'll try to take a pic a day and will post them if or when I can.

This discussion does get me interested to pull out various tools to compare weight, and I do wonder how will the new ARC compares to Spirit.

Day 18

Took advantage of SMKW's Friday The 13th machete sale (clever marketing if nothing else) and got a machete. Chisel-doohickey opened, and plyers removed the safety tip. My wife got a good laugh out of that little piece of plastic on a big (not even pointy) blade.

Used the pliers to loosen a bent bolt out of a piece of sports equipment. Didn’t take a pic. Had a 67 yr old man helping me. Didn’t want him to think I’m a weirdo. 😂 My carry for the day instead.
