Something to do with multitools would be good. After all, this isn't the www.piddlylittlesak.org UK meet up.

Nope but it sure didn't suck like a 58mm SAK.

LOL!  :D  How you can say 58mm's suck compared to the Bug quite amuses me. They both have similar blade sizes for a start plus you get all the added tools on a 58mm.

.......plus you get all the added tools on a 58mm.

No. You get miniature copies of tools, and the blade looks (I haven't seen one in real life yet) far more functional on the bug.

Sorry, but I just can't see the point of 58mm SAKs. I have one, which I use for hot-cutting paracord, because it doesn't really have any other use that I can think of!

I used to come here a lot.

Yeah, but I can point you in a direction where thousands of people will disagree.  ;)

I have one and I use it more than most of my other items.  I'm not necessarily saying we have got to get one, but saying they "suck" is a bit OTT.  Like I said, you may not have found a use, but myself, Mike, possibly Neil and a huge amount of members over at SOSAK have.  We can't all be wrong.

No, but it isn't www.littleOHfolders.com either but you were happy to have that.

We aren't all going to agree on the same tool as we all like different things, but to vote to opt out of it because more people are interested in a 58mm SAK I feel is a real shame.  The whole point is to have something to remember the day and TBH I couldn't give a toss what it was.  I didn't like the idea of the Artifact as I thought we were paying too much money for a tool that I didn't rate very highly, but if everyone else wanted it (and I said this many times) I would have happily joined in as what is written on it and what it stands for is far more important to me IMO.

Hang on then. What should I vote for, do you think?

Just to pick up on your other points though, I felt the same until I'd spent time and sent e-mails lining up a deal on the artifacts and then having to go back and explain that we didn't want them any more when everyone decided to change their minds. Perhaps you and I were in a minority of 2 thinking that "what is written on it and what it stands for is far more important"?

Besides, I have always said that I'll go with the majority, so I'll cough up for a 58mm SAK if that's what's decided, I've never said different. But as there's a discussion about what to get, I'll put my opinion if that's OK with you?

Dave, I of course want your opinion  :tu: (even if it is wrong  :P :D ) and I do hope that we can all decide on something that we are all OK with.  I just don't want to see this idea slip away as I think it's a goodun and I'd love to have something (whatever it is) to keep as a momento.

I really am happy to go with whatever as like I said what it means is what matters to me.  :)  I'll even sort it if I feel I can.

What was the problem with the sharpener idea? Is it plain and simple too difficult to engrave? Is there another format of sharpener out there where engraving might be possible?

Problem was that physical engraving of the back of the sharpener would probably result in a slight deformation of the abrasive surface, not good. Laser engraving may work better but I'm not sure how that would effect (if at all) the adhesion of the diamond to the steel.

Let's not argue about this guys, please:cry:

I think its pretty safe to say we're not going to get a universal agreement so perhaps we should just leave it alone.  The meet is a fun thing, let's stay focused on that.  :tu:

We don't really need to have a specific meet memento, we didn't last year but I still have the bits and bobs I was given, as physical reminders of the event :)

What about doing something to the sheath for this sort of thing? Is it possible to get an inscription stamped into the leather?

You can definitely get inscribed self-adhesive plates that could be stuck to the sharpener or the sheath, like used on trophies.

The plate idea is a goodun!  :tu:

Just for info, I have looked at that sharpener and I don't think engraving would affect the surface as the surface is so thin in comparison to the metal itself.

Is the metal part like a tray? Or is it just stuck to the stone?

I'm wondering whether they could be separated, engraved and then put back together again.

The stone didn't look like a stone as such, more like a blasted surface that is directly on the metal "card".  It looked like it could be engraved as the card (although thin) did look thick enough to take it without affecting the other side.

(Image removed from quote.)

Forgive me if I'm wrong but isn't the metal plate on that stone actually abrasive?  i.e. one side is diamond/titanium coated the other bit that looks like stone actually industrial sapphire?

I know, I'm being the merchant of gloom again  :-\

I have no blooming idea! But when it arrives, I shall take it to the engravers up the road and say - what can you do with that?

Then we'll know.

You get a few options.  DC4 stands for diamond/ceramic so the gold metal plate is the diamond sharpener  and the gray stone is ceramic so no place to do any engraving.  You can also get the D4 which is just the gold looking diamond sharpener I'm guessing you could engrave the back of that.  The 3 or 4 are just two different sizes.  The full range can be had here:

http://www.heinnie.com/lcj7661180903/Accessories/Sharpeners/Fallkniven/c-1-93-370-212/

Very handy sharpeners IMO and the idea of something on the pouch sounds good.
