Seen this post today of a so-called Damascus Leatherman Cutters that are from that Ali-Express outfit for $16, or $23 from Ebay. Looks like they could be a layered steel version material.

  Ali-Express or Ebay

Edit:  Chose to order a set from Ebay. ETA is the end of this month..

Why use a traditional finger guitar slide when you can spend $230 for the bragging rights.

Am wondering something that is probably improbable, as why would someone have both the Garage #5 & an Arc, with a ZapWizard's Case.

Have asked ZapWizard a few times with a reply that he will get around to making a fully armored case for the Garage #5. But what I asked was if the Garage #5 will work with the Arc Full or Partial Armored cases. No reply to that.

Not lost my Garage #5, however had numerous times caught the tool has slid up in the nylon case. Has not fallen out. However it makes me uncomfortable. Since the tools are so close together have been wondering how close the cases are as well. And so far I have not seen a vendor with an Arc out of the box to see if it will fit into a Garage #5 open-face sheath.

In other news,  the damascus cutter replacements were sent the next day.  :tu:

Hi Outback, I've just got my https://zapwizard.com/collections/leatherman-arc/products/holster-for-the-leatherman-arc-armored-pocket-clip and what I can confirm is that the Arc fits fine. Now if you send me your Garage #5 I'll try it out  :pok:

Just kidding, but from the platform similarities what I strongly suspect is that it'll fit. Maybe Zapwizard simply hasn't got around testing it...?

I just neet to find some Chicago screws for the pocket clip, then I'll post a pic. My original plan to use blind rivets is unworkable - the case is armoured (duh ).
Cheers!

@Outback, not sure if relevant to possible future armoured versions of the holster but I found this re ZapWizard holsters for the Garage #5 *):

- apparently armoured versions are not available in the online shop (yet?) though. However, this video might give some hints as to Arc holster compatibility...

*) Open version shown in video sold here: https://zapwizard.com/collections/garage-005/products/holster-for-the-leatherman-garage-5. (Edit to add: on that page ZapWizard announces changes to make the holster compatible with the Arc - the renderings apparently have not yet been adapted to the new configuration as I write this).

Edit to add: just found another video showing both tools in a comparison:

Haven't watched or listened to it all but it appears to me (check from the 5:00 mark) that the main blade and thumb stud are the only critical issues and seem to be located roughly in identical positions on both tools. (Edit to add: after watching almost all I can add that the Arc fits in the Garage #5 holster's open face version, see from 36:00, but the fit is a bit looser compared to the Garage #5).

Edits to add more:
I've inserted the Arc in the holster blank and the thumb stud appears to end about 2 mm short of the end of the cavity formed for it in the holster, see pic. Looking at the comparison video above I get the impression that the Garage #5 thumb stud is a bit further out and sit a bit deeper in that cavity than the Arc one, but I speculate it might just about fit. Which leads me to speculate further that the holster might already be compatible with the Garage #5 but that ZapWizard simply has not yet added that piece of info to the online shop site. Of course I can only be sure by actually trying one - unlikely over here.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

I've also tried the Arc in the open Free P4 holster by the way (Edit: yeah, Zap did that too in his comparison video haha). This also kind of works, at the cost of some wear to the holster's parallellogram-formed holding stud on that side of the holster due to friction with the Arc's thumb stud during its insertion and removal.

Had mentioned that I had issues with the Leatherman Ratchet fully seating into the sheath, like an 8 mm gap from the end to be fully seated. I physically cannot made it go any deeper without resorting to a vise - not something I would do with a plastic-nylon case. ZapWizard stated he was going to update the ratchet holder for the Garage #5 that week.
ZapWizard noted on the Garage #5 sheath: "Note the design has been updated to match the ARC, but the renderings are not yet updated. Changes: New ratchet holder, longer central grip."

Then I asked ZapWizard if the Garage #5 would work in either the armored or partially armored case versions. The partially armored would only show the Garage #5 serial number would be all, and maybe something to grab onto.
ZapWizard replied: "The 005 armored cases are coming out this week. I have updated the 005 regular cases, and am working on the armored versions soon. It will be the full armored only, not the pocket clip compatible, as the 005 only has the clip on one side."

Will have to do something with the current case as the tool is sliding when I am driving. Do not want to lose the Garage #5 and had hoped there was a stronger grip to hold the tool inside the case.

With the pliers being being inserted towards the upper end of the case, there is less weight to hold the tool in a hard nylon case. Maybe I can apply some sort of sticky spray or run a small brush of rubber cement down to give more grip on the back side of the case. And I do like ZapWizard's case, and it should not fall apart like nylon cloth or leather cases would. and they carry more on board without sacrificing more space.

I personally do not know the phycial differences between Garage #5 and the Arc. Would expect the Garage #5 would would with the Armored Arc Case and I could order it and be done with it. :D Unfortunately I do not have the endless funds to buy and try.

:pok: Would assume ZapWizard has both tools and all those cases, thus an answer - yus?

If the open case was horizontal, for me, I would of no doubt lost the tool by now.

... One would expect so, yes...

It would be interesting to learn more of the timing of what ZapWizard wrote in his replies to you. It may be that the case I ordered end of week before last and arrived middle of last week (Shapeways shipping is pretty quick these days, as the local manufactory is in the NL) already is the updated version of a generic case blank base meant for both Arc and Garage #5, with an additional layer of armour as required (clip or not) - this is easy to do in most 3D-printing capable CAD programs. It would make sense to have only one range of cases if it can be made to fit both tools well... (Mine is the armoured Arc case with the space for a pocket clip, to be sure, and I had to switch the clip to the other (main blade) side to fit the Arc into the sheath with the clip attached.)

If that is true however, it would seem the reversed ratchet grip of the Garage #5 case (bit side down) has been abandoned in favour of the old ratchet grip lately added to the Free P4 case (bit side up). This also makes sense as it's more universal (also is a better fit for the bit extender sans ratchet, which the Garage #5 variant as shown doesn't do so well). On the other hand, the latter still shows as available separately.
Cheers!

  Wow, Looks GGGRRREEEAAATTT!!! 🐯

Does it wiggle much? Good fit on the magnetic levers? One could put a loop on the end of the pocket clip for a faster draw.  :gimme:

Anyone use the new style wire stripper on the ARC yet?  I was curious to how it works and if it’s an upgrade.

Thanks! Tool retention is solid, there is no wiggle to speak of either sideways or depthwise and the bottom lever cavity plays its (noticeable but not overly strong) part. The quick draw suggestion is valid but bears the danger of involuntary snagging and consequent tool loss if due care is not taken...

According to an email from ZapWizard: The  Garage #5 isn't compatible with the ARC holsters due to the thicker blade. The ARC is compatible with the Garage #5 holster, but will feel a bit looser. He does have plans to make the armored 005 version just lacks the time.
