Found an Arc on sale, now I'm just waiting for it to ship. I didn't really plan to buy one as I'm a rather diehard wave supporter. But it was cheap enough I figured I'd try it out.

Where did you find it? If you don’t mind sharing.

I'd love to know where you found it on sale as well. I haven't seen it below the $230 price point anywhere except the PX, which is only available to US military members. I like the model enough that I'd like to have one or two more in reserve in case Leatherman abruptly kills it.

If you are Army or Air Force, you can get it on sale at the Exchange for $164.

While my profile picture might give an indication of where I bought mine from (the military PX), I might suggest publicworks [dot] com. Owned by Dicks Sporting goods. Members get 20% off one item, which from what I understand works on the Arc, bringing the price to $183 + tax.

Thanks for the tip! For clarification, the site is publiclands.com — I was a little confused at first but found it quickly since you mentioned the connection to Dick’s. The promotion (which, for anyone coming across this later, is only good until 9/30/2024) did indeed work on the Arc.

Well, nevermind, I posted too soon. The checkout process went fine, but then I got an email saying they cancelled the order. Tried it two more times with different credit cards etc in case it was some sort of security thing, but no, their system is just cancelling it without explanation. Wouldn’t surprise me if there’s either an oversight and Leatherman was supposed to be on their excluded-brands list along with basically every other brand that sells expensive items, or if there’s some sort of auto-cancellation applied if the discount crosses a certain dollar threshold they weren’t expecting.

I'm glad you found it, sorry it's not working. I've heard other people have used it successfully and Leatherman isn't listed under the excluded brands. Maybe the stock is to low so it's not letting it go through? They do outdoor gear which can get pretty pricey so I doubt it's the dollar amount.

Follow-up to the follow-up: I gave it another shot the next day (well, technically, about 14 hours later the same day) and this time it worked. So maybe their system was just having a technical fit, or maybe there were stocking issues as you suggested. Either way, I got the order confirmation a few hours ago, so it seems it went through. Thanks again for the tip!

It doesn't look GM, so I'm guessing it's a full-size Ford.

Finally got this Arc in the mail, haven't quite decided if I like it more than my wave. It'll probably sit on .y desk for a week or two as I debate whether to throw it in the rotation.

When I first starting using the ARC, it felt a little light weight compared to my Charge.  I have been using it pretty heavily since it was released, and it has help up perfectly.  I cleaned up my Charge and stowed it away in my collection box.

This might the special edition that I heard about. The are also supposed to be special editions of the Wave, Micra, and Charge coming, as well.

If they’re doing a new colorway, that suggests the Arc is probably selling well. Good news for those of us who had worried there might not be enough overlap between knife steel nerds and multitool nerds to sustain a very pricey tool using cutting-edge metallurgy.

Also this means I might, uh, be buying a third Arc. Good to have spares?

Leatherman posted this new video to their Instagram
I wonder if all the tools will be "champagne" colored.

It looks like the “innovation “ at LM is pointing towards a trend of new colors on old tools. I hope that I am wrong. I miss the days of new tools being produced yearly and unveiled at SHOT Show.

The ARC is the most innovative multitool on the market, and it was just released a year ago.  How quickly does Leatherman need to release new innovative tools to keep us Leatherman fans happy?

Adding new colors of tools seems like a quick and inexpensive way to generate more revenue, and I can't fault them for that.  I need the company to remain in business for the rest of my life so they can keep that warranty service running  :D

While the ARC is only a year old, I believe it took them six years to mod what is basically a Free P4.  In between that time they reinvented the PST (Bond) and the Pulse (Curl).  Time will tell.

We may also be reaching the end of the road on MT innovation.  There are certainly models yet to be made, like maybe a Rebar or ST300 with outside-opening tools, the Juice v2, Squirt P4 v2,  etc.  But its hard to fathom that there is much left to be innovated 41 years after the PST was released.
