Clipping a SAK blade
on: February 07, 2009, 10:37:57 PM
I didn't know if I should put this here or in the Mod sections ::)

I thought it might get more exposure this way :D

Has anyone got any advice on clipping a SAK clip point to another shape or a MY 1st Vic blade to another shape :) pics would be nice or links to picks I have seen some stuff but the SOSAK search isn't much help ::) Thanks in advance :tu:

I've heard of convertions of My Frist Vic Plus main blade into sheepsfoot forrm, making it into a Lumberjack type sak.

Ive only done one or two blade mods so someone might have better advice.  I used a bench mounted grinder on one when I modded the spine shape.  Only do a very little at a time, keep the blade cool by dipping it in water every couple of seconds.  If you don't you run the risk of killing the temper.  You should be able to do any finishing work with a smooth file and some wet & dry.

If you are looking to change the edge shape (like flattening out the belly) then I have just done it on some bench stones.  Unless you work so fast the blade becomes to hot to handle you shouldn't be in danger of doing any damage to the temper.

We want to see the results as well.  :)
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

Well I have to actually buy a My 1st Vic first ::) But if I do it i'll try and get some pics :D

I am also thinking of changing the shape of the blade on a Classic to that of the other blade on a Mini Champ

We will just have to see how it goes ;)

  • Why is it doing that?

That should be doable. It's the other way around that's hard to do right, since it also requires some regrinding...
