Day 22
More muffin work.  Wife made a batch of corn and flax muffins to pair with the blueberry ones.  Classic just jumped in and cut both so we could share.

Day 22: mail call.

Camillus CUDA Quik-Action Jr., ca pre-2003 (ATS-34 and US built, as  opposed to 2003-08 when they were 154CM and Taiwanese-made). Only cost me $25, and MSRP in 2002 was $168.

It has a small problem that wasn't disclosed, and honestly, it is probably normally not noticeable without disassembly. When I took off the clip to adjust the pivot, I discovered that two of the three clip screws had been pulled out (stripping the threads in the G-10). The clip was being held on by superglue.   Thus, I really can't trust the clip until this is fixed, and I'm not sure how it can be fixed. Thinking about just tapping and drilling it for tip-up carry, since it's tip-down from the factory with a non-reversible clip (tip-down, RH only).

Nice. ATS-34 was the first steel to really impress me with good edge holding. I still have a few knives with it, though I only use Swiss Armies and Spyderco Delica Wharnie, and Pacific Salt serrated for emergency in my back pocket.

Day 22

Opened a box with a Valentine's gift for my wife. Shhh, don't tell her what I got. Since the Classic only has one blade, I decided to try using the screwdriver to avoid gunking it up. It was just ok. I'll look forward to going back to something heavier next month.

We are half way through the challenge so I took the list of approved items and crossed out those that we already saw participating (please adjust if I missed any). Would be great to see all of them - I hope that you collections are deep!

Classic
Classic SD
Classic SD Alox
SwissLite

Signature
Signature lite

Companion Alox
Tomo

DeLuxe
Ensign

Bijou
Broker
RocKnives

Duches

Since I pestered Explorer with the Deluxe's and Rocknives and z1913 is watching closely, I feel obliged to post my share, even though I'm not participating here. ;) Quick and dirty pics of a Deluxe burgundy and marbled brown. I'm amidst moving flats, and much of the collection rests packed in cardboard boxes in the attic of our new home ... :dunno:
Best regards and stay safe,

Wolfgang

Nice photos, Wolfgang.  Too bad you couldn't feel the exhilaration of carrying only a Classic or some Classic ersatz for a month with us.
Also liking the Flying Tiger model.  There used to be a man who was a Flying Tiger in the old days.  He ran a restaurant here until he died.
I am a little concerned for friend Gra.  I hope he doesn't have anything in his home that looks like a 'zombie knife'.  Almost anything could be construed that way if the knife banners have their way.  You might actually wind up using your Bijou for food preparation from now on.  Either that or your family could take turns gnawing meat from a roast.  You could growl at each other like the cute little trash pandas do.
Might as well post another photo of some sort.  Things seem a little slow today.  I don't have  any tiny ducks, so a Bijou with coffee will have to do.  Might better watch that zombie green alox, MTSAK.  Zombie bans could be coming here.....  Best wishes.  G

It's been rubbish here since early 2000's, if I had money in my youth I could have obtained some lovely kit.

As for the growling at eachother....you have not met my wife, she is a stunner....think 1920/1930s movie star (but with long body length hair), and a genius (medical mathematical statistician)....but mess with her cubs and look out. I have friends that are in counter terrorism and have done tours of war zones, and they are fearful of her....

Nothing exciting today.  Wife and I are still both sick.  Classic within my reach, but, in idle mode.

I am enjoying looking at all of your options/variety of Classics.

has anyone else been misplacing their classic during this challenge because of its small size?

i've been enjoying carrying the same  alox classic loose in my pocket and not on the keychain. However I've found that I've misplaced it several times during this challenge. Its tiny size makes it easy to lose.

those awlesome classic scissors came in handy again to open some kettle corn

i've been working on the official challenge badge- it should be ready soon. :ahhh

I lose pretty much everything.  I misplaced my Classic once.  Tether and all.  But I did find it.  Without the tether, this challenge wouldn't have been possible.  I lost my cell phone yesterday.  Then when I stood up, I found it.  When it clattered to the floor.
I will say that the Classic has done just as much as my MiniChamp did during that challenge.  I think I have used everything on the Classic at least once during this challenge.  Key ring, blade, nail file, scissors, scale tools.  I will take that back.  I haven't used the little screwdriver yet.  Probably wouldn't have been practical in the spring or summer when I am outside much more.  The small 58mm package does a lot of things.  It might be all many people need.  If you don't put it on your keys or in a purse you can look out.  They will be gone.  Best wishes.  G

Day 23:
I keep from losing this thin little bugger by clipping it to my flashlight. Helps keep it anchored in my coin pocket. Only use today has been some nail care. Used the scissors and the file. Might peel an orange if I get back from class before my next IEP meeting.

I posted this trash panda photo in another section, but hardly anybody goes there.  An old friend and good veterinarian.  Rackos are really smart.  I mentioned to Gra about them growling at each other when they eat.  They do.  A mother (I assume, it's hard to tell) will show up at a snack and growls at her kits.  Won't let them eat until she finishes.  The system seems to work.  They have proliferated here.
That vet in the picture told me he was called out when some people were alarmed with emaciated raccoons staggering around and lying in people's yards and such.  They thought the critters were rabid.  The old vet sent some off for an autopsy and found they were simply starving.  Hunters had brought in the varmints from the low country where it was swampy.  The critters simply didn't know how to survive up here in the mountains.  The survivors have since adapted, which is what they do best.  Best wishes.  Gary

I almost bought a Duchess on ebay for the challenge, but it got a little too spendy. "Surely, someone else will have one," I though to myself. I should've know better than to call myself Shirley.

Day 23

Went for an after dinner walk and found this 4 pack holder in the street. Classic saved the turtles and I threw it in the recycling when I got home. Always leave it better than you found it, team.

Gary, my mother-in-law feeds stray cats that have been dumped near their property.  The raccoons in the area learned about the "feeding" and decided to help themselves as well.  So much so that there is one large bugger that would give a medium dog a run for it's money.  It's so large, that it waddles up to the bowl, plops itself down in front of it, and proceeds to shovel handful after handful into it's mouth until it's full.  It's quiet comical to witness.

Always leave it better than you found it, team.
  :iagree:

Day 23

Package opening duties for what I "thought" was going to be a simple little project.  I picked up this black Gerber Clutch to fix the red one that I got from the GAW box for my son as one of springs broke and I stripped one of the tiny star bit screws trying to get them out.  This little bugger has almost beaten me twice. :bnghd:

I had stop this evening to eat dinner but I'm going to finish tomorrow.  Suffice to say, I am not enthused with the design of the Gerber Clutch.  This explains why it's no longer in production.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

Day 23:

Opened more than a few things with the scissors, and dealt with a flap of loose skin that kind of bubbled up after dealing with the stiff opening button on the Quik-Action.

I'm emailing Phil Gibbs, the designer (who worked for Camillus at the time--now he's one of  AG Russell's designers) to see if he can help me troubleshoot it.

The Gerber Clutch was my very first small tool--I think I bought it when I was maybe 14 at Lowes. The sucker loosened up, and the pivot screws were so soft, that when I went to tighten it, the screws stripped. Also, all the drivers got dinged up.  I discovered the Squirt family as an adult, and never looked back.

I gave my son a Tinker for Christmas so he's not empty handed but he liked the Clutch as it was his first "multi-tool".  I was trying to bring it back in working order, and I'm sure I can, it's just more of a struggle fighting the spring to put the pliers back in.  I should be able to finish tomorrow.  Did you find the phillips and the large flat head hard to open?
