Arc vs. Spirit X Plus
on: November 28, 2023, 04:16:11 PM
I'm comparing the Arc and the Spirit X plus.  My wife is an educator so I have the opportunity to get the Arc at 30 percent off which would make the price pretty much the same as the Spirit X Plus.  Seems like they could both get the same work done. What are everyone's thoughts?

Welcome, H2oOperator!

I would go for the Spirit X, without the "Plus" option.  The sheath or "pouch" is smaller on the belt, if you carry that way, and I find the ratchet and bits are not needed.  But each to his own on that one.

Though I find something to like with almost every MT, the Spirit is probably my favorite of the bunch.

Welcome to :MTO: H2o

Of the 2 I would prefer the ARC if they are priced the same but that is just my preference because I can never get along with the Spirit :dunno: :D

All great options as well :tu: :like: :like:

Getting both is always the best option, buuuut...

Get the Spirit.

It's better made, has more functions and the s engineered to actually work, not to look fancy so the marketing department can overcharge for it.

I don’t have an Arc or any Free series, but I will say the Spirit is better quality than any Leatherman I own. I won’t get an Arc anytime soon because of the price, but I’m not turned away for the Spirit price. It’s a very high quality tool.

I can't argue with that...I have all three.  However, when not in challenge mode, I carry my Skeletool a lot because it has the 3 tools I use most at work: knife, pliers, screwdriver.

I could always get my leathermans cheaper than any swisstools. Also I wanted oho blades and easily replacable tools. I cant do that with a Victorinox. I carry the Surge and I dont think a swisstool would be better for Me. I can also open scissors or the saw with one hand. Just suits me better. You should know what features you prefer.

A little late on this one, but as I have both the arc and the swisstool spirit x (not the plus version though) I thought I would post my thoughts.
As far as ergonomics, both feel good, but the swisstool is just a little better in my hand. However, I really like being able to access all the tools on the arc with one hand. Although the swisstool claims more functions, the tools have similar toolsets, so I generally don't see a difference in usability. As far as general quality and feel goes, the swisstool is better with each tool feeling great to open, however, the arc is top notch as well I cant realy complain at all about either. I got the arc with the 30% discount, and when they were offering a free bit kit for orders over $150. I feel like at that price it is a great deal, especially if you are like me and like leathermans flat bits. However, the spirit is a great tool, and you can get a version with one handed blades and a pocket clip. All in all, for pocket carry, I would probably chose the spirit, while I think that the arc just edges it out for sheath carry.

I've owned a spirit before, greatly miss it and may pick up another someday. Comparing it to my new Arc, they both really are comparable, both are excellent quality and have features that are a must have for a daily multitool. The Mangacut blade is a nice addition, but due to having a quality folder on my most the time it's not a deal breaker.

So, which one did you get? And, when are you buying the other one?

I am also interested to know, I have the spirit and really like it, but the rebar and charge get the most pocket time....for me being able to change screwdriver bits is important.....

Leatherman if you are listening, arc version 2 with the surge blade changer please and add the serrated blade.

This is only my opinion. I have the Arc and the Swisstool X, not the spirit. In my opinion, the Swisstool is a higher quality, nicer built tool. The Arc is new and therefore the hot ticket, until something newer comes along.

I had a feeling that was the case, thank you.

I have the Swiss tool and very happy to have it in my rotation. I use my tools hard, as I need to know that I can trust them....and I really need too in my job.

I am a frequent warranty addict, and have broken a few standard SAK and Leatherman multi tools...but the Swiss tool has really impressed me.....it's not as pretty anymore, but I know that I can trust it.

@BlindFarmer - thanks for the insight  :tu:
