Thanks for sharing BF. I didn’t even know this was a thing. Here is what I would add to the kit. The wrenches like you mentioned. Wiha PLS10 and T10H for working on all generations of Wave, Charge, and Surge. I would get an alignment tool. I used one that was created for working on Benchmade Axis Lock Knives. It has worked fantastic for me on various Leathermans I have worked on. For general cleaning, I would get an old worn out toothbrush and cheap dollar store 1” paint brush and some Isopropyl Alcohol. Maybe add a wire brush to clean the file if it gets gummed up with Aluminum.
Wiha bits have been great. Where others have deformed, these haven’t. Worth every penny. They are a must if you have expensive modern pocket knives. I got mine on the big River site. You will need 2 of each.
On a side note and totally off topic, check out Last Best Tool on YouTube. He does some good reviews of a wide variety of hand tools. You might enjoy it.
I would get an alignment tool.
What is an alignment tool?Edit: oh I think I get it, I did not fully see the picture before! It must be those long pointed tools at lower left, correct? For sticking through pivot holes to line the parts up? This is not something I have known about.
… a flat spot on the tool that matches the flat spot on the pivot bolt…
Hi BF, In the picture I posted above in the left hand lower corner are two long skinny pointed rods. They are an alignment tool that I used to disassemble and reassemble Leathermans when I perform maintenance or modifications The tools were originally purchased to work on Benchmade Axis Lock pocket knives. A side benefit that they work well on Leatherman multitools. Do a google search for Benchmade Axis Lock Alignment Tool. There is a vendor on Etsy (I am in no way affiliated with the vendor) that I got mine from. I have had these for quite a few years now and have been very happy with them.
I found it on Etsy. Now, is it the same tool no matter the material it is made from? He has them in aluminum, brass, steel, etc. thank you for the help.
I have both a Stainless Steel version and an Aluminum. I would recommend getting a steel version. The aluminum or brass version is soft and will be more prone to wear. I haven’t noticed any difference in use between the two. Just observed more noticeable scratches in the aluminum version. They are all the same, just different material or knurling.
