Day 15

It’s not sunny everyday. It rained today however I was really glad because the garden was watered and we collected some more water to our tank…

So I stayed at home all day and used the Sportsman for some cooking. Needed to open a box with cottage cheese first and then chop some fruits for my porridge

In the afternoon some serious office work- opening packages

In the evening I used the tweezers but I don’t have a picture of that…

Day 16

A few drops of oil for the Sportsman.

Here it is with a well carried Spyderco Gayle Bradley 2, and a new Boker Barlow (integral copper and desert ironwood). 🤩

I prefer Victorinox's oil on SAKs, and most back lock or slip joint knives. I think it is because the high friction between the blade and back spring requires a thicker oil to get a smooth operation.

The Nano oil I have is fairly thin, but works well on other types of locks or detent ball/tracks where the friction is not so high.

Nothing to report today. The Sportsman was not required at T-ball practice….

I am often too lazy to walk a few steps to get the oven mitts , so I would use my pocket knife to handle items that are too hot to touch. In this case, after toasting bread in the air fryer, to pull the wire grid out, and nudge the toast onto a plate.

Working from home today, my lunch was: smashed avo, juice of a leftover lime, basil pesto, a dollop of mayonaise and S&P all mixed together on buttered toast, and a marmalade toast on the side, because why not?  :D And rooibos tea.

Day 10

Package duty again...

I figured my life would be incomplete until I experience a classic like a Buck 110. My first "expensive" pocket knife was a Buck, a small skinner-type folder probably 20 years ago. This is my second Buck.

Big knives are a lot of fun.

That classy poniard of yours has invaded my brain.  Now I want one too!

 :D

My apologies for being a source of temptation...

To be honest, if you like bigger knives IMO you cannot go wrong for $65... It is a chunk of knife plus a solid sheath for the price of a Pioneer X.  I will take a few comparison photos tomorrow in the light.

Brock, that Buck has invaded my brain, too.  Of course, the 110 is a “real” Buck.  All I have is this Buck Strider and a Buck Wenger to move over and make room for a 110.
Today, the Sportsman has a job to do opening the bag of a right angle male cord cap so I can better utilize an extension cord in a tight space.
I am keeping in mind, if I let the smoke out of the new cord cap when I first energize it, the extension cord will not work.

That Leaf surely does.  Do the others in the picture have an inferiority complex?  or just being quiet?

Sportsman and Grilled Cheese Sandwich. My wife makes them better, but she is on a work trip. So poor me has to make do with my attempt.

Yummy looking grilled cheese there!

It's beautiful outside today but somehow I spent the morning reading and fixing a broken nail.

Good looking range of uses there guys. I'm liking the smashed avocado Brock (never tried that) and Rooibos is a good tea to accompany it. And this Buck interest in contagious. I don't have 110.

Yet.

Day 16

Today I used Sportsman to pull out the old battery from wall clock.

Otherwise it was quite busy day and I didn’t need to use the knife for anything else.

Regarding Bucks, I don’t have 110, I used to have 112 but I gave it to my grandfather. I still have Vantage Pro that I really love.
However, it looks like the next challenge after this Sportsman one there can be Buck 110 :) at least it would be a reason to buy the knife ;)

That classy poniard of yours has invaded my brain.  Now I want one too!

Apologies for the Buck 110 detour, but since a few people showed interest I will post a few comparison pictures...

The 110 is in the same size-class as the PM2, Sebenza, SAK RangerGrip 130mm.

From left to right:
SAK Sportsman
Boker Barlow
GEC #44 Gunstock Jack
Spyderco PM2
Spyderco GB2
CRK Large Sebenza
Buck 110
SAK RangerGrip 79
Spyderco Military

It is much thicker than the modern folders, with generously contoured edges. It's impressively ergonomic without a pocket clip, and fills the hand nicely.

But... it's a boat anchor in comparison to the modern lightweights, at almost twice the weight of a standard G10 PM2 (207g vs 105g)! The extra weight comes with the territory - if you can't handle the heat get out of the kitchen... That brass frame surely feels solid though.

My impression is that the 110 is a blue collar no-nonsense workhorse. It dwarfs the little Boker Barlow gentlemans folder I showed before. Copper, brass and wood-heavy picture below...

@Jeffjeeptj, nice one there!

Bill it is a good combo, you should try it!

I grew up as a kid in South Africa with avo on toast and sweet rooibos tea, but only after I came to Aus did I realise that "smashed avo" is A Big Thing on this island... You can order it from practically any hip city cafe for a pricely sum. It will always be a nostalgic favourite for me.

Useless fact of the day: Rooibos tea is indigenous to the arid west coast of South Africa.

We have grandchild duty for the next three days.  (It’s a tough job, but, somebody has to do it). This morning, Sportsman had to open the plastic bag inside the box.  Easy-peasy.  Grandma added blueberries and kids were happy.  I failed to take a “post” photo showing the debris.  The kids really like the flavor of dark syrup.

Day 17

Opened one envelope with the permit/sticker to drive into the city centre of German cities.

Then, later today I opened another package with Stockman from NAHC (North American Hunting Club). I understand that this was some kind of limited edition for the club.

It is a big knife. I guess the size would be similar to 110.
