Without going into too many details (mostly because they don't yet exist) I am working on an alternative for everyone here that should be up and running soon.  Meanwhile, if anyone has any coding or graphical abilities and experience they would like to volunteer to help things along, please PM or email me.

Thankfully there ARE other auction sites....hopefully our favourite sellers will move over to these, reasonable, non knee jerk reacting sites  :salute:

Ebay took so long to do this that I was beginning to hope that they'd seen sense - but it looks like they are that stupid.

Can anyone recommend a UK auction site until Def's one comes online?

I'm not aware of any with decent SAK/tool stuff going on :(   A couple of folk mentioned ebid but when I looked there was only one sak seller from Germany doing the normal retail line.

Well my coding ended many years ago with Fortran 77 and although I can take a passable picture and know my way roughly round photoshop I'm guessing that's not quite the graphics you had in mind :)
If I can help though let me know  :tu:

Not having a local ebay site I have to ask this: if this is a policy enforced by ebay.co.uk and ebay.ie, does it still hold for items on ebay.com? I mean, if there is a US-based seller, selling items on ebay.com with international dispatch, is a UK/IE-based client also banned by the ebay.com site

Got this while bidding on ebay.com earlier today:

Quote from: ebay.com
Dear Bidder / Buyer

If you are bidding on or buying a knife, please note that due to stringent laws, the sale of knives is subject to restrictions on ebay.co.uk and ebay.ie. These restrictions also apply to the purchase of these items from other eBay sites.

Cleverly worded that. At first glance, it looks like it's something to do with the law doesn't it? When the reality is, it's ebay's inability to govern their own website and nothing to do with the law at all!

I nearly choked when I glanced at that.  It really is trying to pass the buck and imply the ban has nothing to do with them. >:(

Honestly, there's not a whole heck of alot to tell just yet... I was hoping to have it open soon, but we've just hit a bit of a snag.  Hopefully Esteban can get the time to sort it out so we can get back on track.

I'll start a new thread about it when there's something to tell.  Meanwhile, there will be a pretty splash page going up soon with some info, but for now the site is being built, set up and de-bugged at an undisclosed location...

I think the main bit of ebay that is responsible for Ireland and UK is registered in Luxembourg, and the parent company in Switzerland (which obviously isn't subject to EU laws). Some kind of VAT dodge that got a lot of publicity when they restructured a few year sago.

I'm feeling the pain of you gents in the UK :(  Here's to hoping that EDCscourge works out. 8)

In the mean time, if we here on the left side of the Atlantic can act as go-betweens (place an ebay bid for any of you guys, or arrange shipping) please don't hesitate to ask.

That's my guess.

Either that, or after raising a stink about it, eBay is going to revert to their "do nothing" policy.

This is what really gets to me.  Its items such as this I'll miss, just some bod clearing stuff out of their drawers, tool boxes.  How many knives/SAKs/tools will now just get tossed in the bin
