Day 14

No. 6, No. 7, No. 8

I know a lot of people quite like the No. 8 but I personally prefer the No. 7 for edc. This one here is a new one I have between a used set of No. 6 and No. 8 that I had sitting near by.

@comis, it's a shame about that Prince lighter as it's pretty good looking.  But that is a sharp looking armored Zippo.

@MTSAK, hope the kids feel better soon.  I hate it when the kids get sick.

Day 14

Didn't get to play with any firestarting devices today, since I had to stay with Lil guy most of the day and spent the evening watching movie with Mrs.  But did manage to continue to practice a few tricks on this green zippo.  The fact that I kept on dropping it on the wooden floor is almost like a durability test on its own, so far no noticeable damage done.

🔥DAY 13🔥
cloudy and rainy today so no fire starting attempts with the mag glass.

carried the Dunhill rollagas and tried to light some incense but it failed to light again. I think it's the butane regulator but it could be many things because it's a really finicky lighter.
:twak:

its quite a handsome lighter- circa 1960s- but it's not reliable in the slightest. so the bic (not pictured ) stepped in as a back up.

vintage rollagas can be quite capricious so definitely not something to rely on in a survival situation. I may need to pick up something more reliable- any suggestions for a reliable survival lighter would be appreciated.

I tend to agree with Nate on this subject, Bic with ziptie is definitely way up the list.  It is so lightweight with a small footprint, and operable with just one hand makes it a winner.

yes the orange thinge is a silicone sleeve to protect the sapphire lens of the titanium magnifying glass. It also came with a glow in the dark sleeve as well.

that's a rather nice-looking zippo you have there

Not all zippo has pattern on both sides, and I definitely got that one based on it was dual-sided design.

That's an interesting topic all on its own, personally I too would prefer the No. 8 most of the time since I always love knife with full grip and lightweight.

I find the jump in pocket bulk from the No. 7 to the No. 8 to be large for not much increase in blade length.

Same, the No. 7 has risen to the top of the pile for carrying Opinels. I do like the 8 & 9, but the 7 just disappears in the pocket, as if I am carrying nothing.

Carrying an old Ronson lighter. It seems to actually last longer than my zippos before needing to be filled.

Day 14

Got some good sun this morning and cut down a number of trees. Thought we’d get a fire going before some drizzle. Drizzle turned into unexpected hours of fairly heavy rain so no fire.

Thanks for this observation, funny I never really did measure the blade length for them both, I wish I didn't miss out on the Opinel challenge and probably would have done some comparison myself, that looks fun!

Got a 100 anniversary Imco from oversea, and from what I've learned about them(joint, flint wheel, writings, magnetic), it should be the Austrian made original.

That lighter belongs to one of my sons, it is the amazon lighter from a couple pages ago.  It says Chief on the bottom, but son says that is not the brand name.  It has a metal match (or whatever you call it) on the top as well.

I found this bic stashed away in an old camping bag. It must be a decade old at least. I don’t know when I last used it, but it I know it’s been to the Rocky Mountains and the Appalachian Trail.
