Talking about April's fool, I saw an IG post from Spyderco which was pretty hilarious too!

I was busy bathing the kids last night and forgot to post... already. I apologize for already playing catch up.

Day 1 of 30
I always have this little pouch in my pocket with a mini Bic in it. Two of my four kids had birthdays this week, so it got used to light candles multiple times.

I've been looking for a tiny pouch like that, for keychain-sized items.  I also like that tiny driver.

Day 2:

Still a bit busy so getting a setup together.  I haven’t really used my old beat up huntsman in a while so I thought I’d give it some time prepping tinder.

I’ll primarily use my ferro rod as the fire starter and when I can actually get out to use it I’ll practice with some different kindling and starting methods.

My go to setup is dryer lint and petroleum jelly with dried shavings.  I’ve also saved and dried out some corn husks that light well with a lighter or match but have never tried a ferro rod with it.  We’ll see how it goes.

I read up on the last few posts about this knife, what a journey and a fantastic job!  I often felt more drawn to a particular knife, when some work was done on it.

I appreciate the kind words, it was my first real restoration and hopefully one of many more to come.

carried the mag glass again today and matches in the titanium travel tube again. It rained all day so I didn't have a chance to have a fire but maybe tomorrow.

April Firestarting Challenge
Fire 2 of 30

This morning I grabbed a 9V and a wad of 0000 steel wool and "carried" it in my lunchbox all day waiting for an opportunity to make a fire.  I wound up bringing it back home and finally got to do it before dinner. I didn't have proper tinder for an actual flame up,,, but I got smoke,,,, so I'm counting it.

Forgot to add- the fuel chamber can be removed and used separately,  looks like a metal candle.

I'm now wondering if a significantly strong flashlight counts as a fire starter

I would say yes, but if and only if you demonstrate that you can actually start a fire with it.

Day 2

The evening was chilly enough to setup the fire pit.  Used the Exotac Nandostriker XL to light the dried sunflower stalks we used as kindling.

Day 3
I've had this mini Bic on my keys for three or so years.
No zip-tie safety, disposable, found it in the street, on my keys for over three years, and it is more reliable that a lighter that cost me $35 and they sell it empty to begin with. More on that later.

Dug out my IMCO imitation and refueling it sure bring smile on my face.  The candle mode surely makes it a unique design.

Bic works in a mysterious way for me...sometimes I could have sworn some of them would emptied out just by sitting around in a drawer, some would just kept on going like an energizer bunny.  But the firststarting device I'd always bring is always a Bic.

As usual, my EDC mini Bic. Also, I have my Blueridge overland gear bum bag in my work backpack, and I have this regular Bic wrapped in Gorilla tape in there. I've got a hair tie on it to keep it from leaking and in the event my wife, daughters, or foster son need one for a ponytail.
