I like both the locking screwdriver and Evolution scales. As for innovation, I guess it's all good and well. But I'd rather have something that's been proven.

I never thought the evolution scales sculpting did much to aid grip.  They do look nice, though.  I can see how the evo-grip scales would, though I personally don't like the rubber insert approach.  Seems less durable.

Regarding the locking driver, I assume it works by elongating the pivot hole in the tool? If so, does the tool sliding back and forth across the brass pin accelerate wear in that area of the pin?

I thought the Evolution scales were only nice-looking scales, until I had to eat some chicken thighs with a Wenger Evo 16, and found the best grip I've ever had on a knife during this task. It becomes almost instinctive on my hands, and great for almost every job I try to do with it.

And to be fair, I did not have an evo scaled knife very long and never carried it with any frequency. It’s very likely I’d find it handy given some real use. But alas, I’m an alox man nowadays.

I've taken apart two used Wengers that have the slide locking Cap lifter/Driver and didn't notice any abnormal wear on the pin.

I love the Evo and Evolution scales, and the Wenger nail file (stippled, not notched). Give me that nail file on all 91's instead of the small blade. The blade shape is different and a nice change. I like Victorinox's just as much.

I have got to question what that coffee spatula is actually for.  Perhaps I just lack knowledge of the inner mysteries of espresso. But when I make one, I use a scoop and a tamper. I can't see how the "spatula" would be of any help at all.

EDIT:  I read more of the hype on the V'nox web page. "Use this to remove the basket from the portafilter for cleaning".  So it does have a function of some kind, after all.

I should say I'm not actually against these kind of special ised issues, and in some ways the more obscure they are the more fun. They all contribute to the legend of the SAK, that no matter what you want to do, there is a SAK you can do it with.

I still wish I had bought a Minathor...

Speaking of specialized, that seems like exactly what the 12mm nozzle remover is. If only they'd seen it fit to resurrect the Wenger combo wrench (though this SAK strikes me as being very much in the spirit of Wenger's greater willingness to take risks on production of a specialty tool). I'm looking at the coffee spatula as an enlarged version of the 58mm pharmaceutical spatula. Somehow this tool set seems more useful to me than one that includes the package opener.

Second edit: I don't have much need for a magnifying glass, and the 12mm nozzle could probably be used on 12V battery cables. So I guess Victorinox may have a winner there. Though I'd still like to see the Wenger-style combo wrench make a comeback.

Yep - The Vict website is pretty shocking - Full of bu11sh1t and awlways loads of mistakes - Particularly in the tool lists
Often missing and/or duplicated tools!!
