Happy birthday explorer, and wish you and your wife a swift recovery. :salute:

Day 5
A fenix e20 v2.0
This is a cracking little 2x AA light.
I think it’s only 300 odd lumens but I find it very bright with plenty of throw.

I used to use it a lot when walking my dog in the woods at night.
Fenix has some nice lights.  I only wish they had some hicri warm leds

Day 5

This is my Stylus Pro, it lives in my toolbox at work.  I have had it for several years.   It is tough and reliable.

[ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ]
Streamlight is one of the only brands I haven’t owned other than the Nano

I'm ok for a knife, since I edc my Deluxe Tinker or other tools, although that might get me in trouble with the new laws...
But those wooden forks, they won't pierce into food. Absolutely terrible. I have a dessert fork in my work bag, metal, lightweight, excellent for actually eating. And a plastic spoon. The wooden spoons taste horrible on my tongue.
I too edc a SAK mountaineer, but usually don't use the large blade on that to avoid unnecessary attention.  And you are right about the fork, I think they too are either too blunt or break easily.  I carry a metal spork whenever I travel for occasional use, but who knows, it main now become a standard EDC item.

I’m glad I haven’t encountered disposable wood utensils yet.

I have gotten those paper straws a couple of times though.  They absorb water, get slimy, collapse, and generally don’t work.  Give me a plastic straw any day.

Hear, hear.

Day 4
so, I did not intend to be a chronological historical illustration of the lights i own,but it's turning out that way.
i got this Mini Maglite in 1996,it was my first EDC light, served me well for a few years.
when my son started crawling,he got ahold of it,and used to enjoy whacking it on the floor.
i had it repaired and used it until i got my first Surefire [i'll post that later]. i intended to get the LED upgrade for this too [is that available now?]

20240605_204046 by Humayd a r Mahomedy, on Flickr
current EDC and og EDC

The Maglite drop-ins was really popular when it first came out, but less so nowadays when they are so many choices to choose from and Maglite is making their own led lights.  I think they are still available on Amazon, but meanwhile I'd also take a look at the current Maglite led offerings.

Day 5
Wuben Owl which I keep on the outside of my sling.

I love this light with the rotating head, strong metal spring clip and LED display.  I only wish it used usb-c charging rather than proprietary case/base or magnetic
(Image removed from quote.)

Same here, I find it strange flashlight companies are thinking lights need a charging pod like ear buds do, the design looks awesome and that's the only reason I am not getting one...

Happy belated Birthday and I do hope you feel better soon.

The Lumitop EDC is one of me favorite AA lights, with the Acebeam Rider Rx being the other.  I know the Lumitop Tool is the more popular one (which is probably why the EDC was discontinued) but I liked the EDC version better.

I think this is the first non-staged shot of the challenge for me. Was packing out some equipment late at work tonight and lit up the truck bed with the A8.
So much light out of such a small flashlight.

I tend to use the box at home, but carry a magsafe powerbank in my sling that will work with my phone and the Owl, but a usb-c would be so much better.

The proprietary charging just really gets me, especially on something people want to carry around.  I have a Skillhunt flashlight/headlamp that I love but don’t use as much as others because it has the magnetic tail charging like Olight.  I think it is for better water resistance but I still hat it.

i'll probably get 1 of the current Maglites, this challenge reminded me of my affinty for flashlights.
i want to upgrade the other 2 for sentimental reasons.

Day 5
i probably got this Solitaire in 98. Blue Wildebeest hide background.
i added it to an incomplete Champ SOS kit a few years back,it was running a few months ago,but i just discovered that the battery, which i kept reversed in the light, leaked in the interim. i'll try to resurrect this,we'll see how that turns out

Day 6

Thanks to Sos24 for sending me this RovyVon E5. Doesn't look like it's even been out of the box! Didn't get to carry it yet, but the dual power is cool. I've read some debate on if it's better to use the LiPo (easily rechargable, but will eventually wear out) or the AAAs (replicable, but less convenient) as the main power. Thoughts?

Day 7

I modified my Coast HP1. I have two, so I thought even if it goes horribly wrong, I have a spare.
I drilled a 3/32" hole in the cap, to make a lanyard hole. It does not have one by default, so I attached lanyards to the clip. But now it does. It fits thin lanyards, up to three-strand paracord, and small split-rings. With the pictured lanyard it still stands up for candle mode.
My idea was to remove the clip to put one in a Maxpedition pouch, and the clip doesn't really suit that.
Very happy with the result.

We have these spread around the house as well.  Pretty convenient in case of a power outage.  I'm not as good as I should be at checking the batteries though.

today i was messing around with the DT8K with osram W2 emitters in 6000K this thing is a beast (21700 battery) and puts out about 10,000 lumens on turbo. here it is with the slightly smaller DT8. i'll try to take a proper beamshot once i'm on mend.

This was my day 6 carry.
But could not post it then because I had to pick my mum up from the hospital after having had a hip replacement and take her an hour and a half’s drive to my aunts house where she will be recovering, as my aunt has a bungalow.

It’s a surefire G2X LE, LE standing for law enforcement.
The difference being the LE turns on on high as opposed the the standard G2X turning on on low.

My trouble is i never show initiative, but that's only because no one has told me to.

Long ago, I used to carry the Swisschamp SOS pouch with the Solitaire flashlight with me whenever I go outdoors.

Thinking back, Maglite was really the only thing I would use with good value, the big Maglite (C or D cells) for throw, Minimag for EDC or pocket carry, and the Solitaire for keychain.  I was particular fond of the Minimag and Solitaire, not to mention they both could store spare bulb in the tailcap and candle mode.

:like:  I used to clip flashlight or knife onto my pocket, but I do that less often nowadays.  Not wanting to draw extra attention is one thing, but mainly because the pocket clip may scratch car door and worse still, sometimes the gear get snatched off the pocket if the clip is not tight enough.

I forgot my post the other day, and this is exactly the same light I have.  I think many Hanklight enthusiast, whom are into hotrod flashlight would eventually get one...some much light but the heat or runtime is not very sustainable.  I definitely got it just for the wow factor.  8)

Day 5 and Day 6 (make up)

I remembered to reply the posts, but kept on forgetting to post mine.   Here is the catch up for the last two days:

Just like Explorer, I got a DT8K Hanklight with 8x 6000K W2 led hotrod flashlight with 21700 battery.

I think one of the bigger trend I have observed in recent years is the some flashlight makers are now offering more flashlight with different emitters to choose from, or even install the exact kind of emitter you would choose in the flashlight host you'd like (Hanklight belongs to this camp).

Just to those whom may not be familiar, the K usually referring to the color temperature of the white led, which the lower Kelvin usually gives warmer/yellowish beam (for example 2700K), while the higher K gives more out more cooler/blueish white light (6000K).

Meanwhile, besides color temperature, there is something call tint which would dictate how much red or green in the white light the led gives out.  Usually, many folks would prefer a neutral or reddish tint, so the light would look warmer or pure white in person.

Another Hanklight in ARC finish.  I quite like the new ARC finish for flashlight, it does give it somewhat of a 'Starwar' look to the light.  But from what I've read, the ARC finish is still in its early days, so it may not be as durable as the normal hard anodization we see nowadays.

Day 7

Streamlight Dualite 3AA

IIRC, I made a post in the flashlight subforum earlier this year or last, about wanting a flashlight that is for urban highrise fire emergency use.  This could be the answer to that.  It has dual lights, one out the front and one shine straight down to the floor.

I think both led are in around 140 lumens, not terribly bright in today standard but probably bright enough for indoor emergency use.  Both buttons are one stage only, simple for everyone at home without having to fidget thru different modes or lockout mode.

This is something I am very grateful for.  When I first started getting into flashlights, almost all the big manufacturers were only offering cool white.  Then some started offering Nichia.

As I learned more and tried more, I discovered I really like neutral temperature (4000-5000k) in HiCri.  If the tint is really good, I might go up to 5700k. If I’m wanting something for mostly longer throw then I’ll go with something else like an Osram.

The ARC finish is interesting and I do like the color.  We’ll see the durability.

I'd go with AAA cells. Being able to quickly replace the batteries is desirable, especially in an emergency situation.
