Day 6

Thanks to Sos24 for sending me this RovyVon E5. Doesn't look like it's even been out of the box! Didn't get to carry it yet, but the dual power is cool. I've read some debate on if it's better to use the LiPo (easily rechargable, but will eventually wear out) or the AAAs (replicable, but less convenient) as the main power. Thoughts?
Glad you received it and hope you get good use out of it.  As far as battery, I usually used a NiMH rechargeable, specifically Pale Blue as the main power. Pale Blue have a usb-c charging port built in.  This was nice because you could charge the AAA while still have the flashlight available with the built in LiPo.

Day 7
The Owl was clipped to my shirt collar for extra light as I swapped the clip on my new LM Free K4.  II used the magnetic bottom of the owl to magnetize the tip of the screwdriver enough to hold the screws.

Day 7 Bonus
I thought I would do a comparison of two different short stubby 16340 lights - the Acebeam TK16 (with SST-20) (now discontinued) and the Sofirn SC21.

These are both great little lights, but pretty different.
The obvious difference from looks is that the Acebeam TK16 is a tail switch and triple LED, while the Sofirn SC21 is a single LED with a side switch.

As far as UI the Sofirn has the Andruil ramping UI.  The Acebeam is a fairly typical LMH UI with additional Turbo and Moonlight modes.  The Acebeam also has an ECO which lowers the mode outputs to save power.

Another big difference is in the beams.  Both are neutral white HiCri emitters, so the color is pretty close.  The difference comes in the difference in the emitter difference SST-20 vs LH351D) and triple led with TIR versus the single with reflector.

I find it interesting that the Acebeam with the 3 LEDs provides a more focused beam than the single in the LH351D.

That's pretty neat. I may have to look into one.

Day 7
Aurora clipped to my belt, using the side lights. Pretty good wide area light inside the camper.

Had to use my keychain flashlight to find the other flashlight that I was going use until I dropped it under my desk.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

I have been thinking the light will predominantly drain the lipo first, then AAA cell.  Didn't know one could actually choose which battery to use first, that's smart.  Does it tell you when does it make the switch?

If I were you, I'd choose to drain the lipo on a daily basis, then have a AAA lithium primary cell as a backup.

Reason being those AAA lithium primary cell can hold up their charge usually up to 10 years, they are lighter in weight too.  Meanwhile, the little lipo battery does drop charge after sometime, so having it as a primary source will be a good way to check on its condition.

This is something I am very grateful for.  When I first started getting into flashlights, almost all the big manufacturers were only offering cool white.  Then some started offering Nichia.

As I learned more and tried more, I discovered I really like neutral temperature (4000-5000k) in HiCri.  If the tint is really good, I might go up to 5700k. If I’m wanting something for mostly longer throw then I’ll go with something else like an Osram.

The ARC finish is interesting and I do like the color.  We’ll see the durability.

  I am in a similar camp, I am good with neutral white (5000K), or even slight warm white (4000-5000K), so as long there is no significant tint swift (color of the white change to greenish, especially in lower output mode), I am good.

Day 8

Talking about emergency readiness, I got this set of Energizer emergency headlamp for about 24 bucks sometime last year. and throw it in my 'bug out' bag for highrise fire emergency.

It is a pretty decent deal considering it came with the batteries too, and do have pretty high rating on Amazon.  But fearing those regular primary will easily leak and ruin those lights when I need them the most, I'd put lithium primary AA batteries in them.

🔦 DAY 07 🔦

i think i've lost track of the days this covid has me down for the count. i've been using this other DT8 i've got and this one has a floody optic with e21a r9080 emitters in a 2000K color temp so it's similar to a candle. i've had it set on flickering candlelight mode in the evenings and it's been rather soothing.

Hope you'd get better soon!

Candle mode with a warm white led is an interesting idea, never did think of that. :tu:

Btw, I am not entirely familiar with the e21a, how does it compare to some other led that are more commonly seen?

I'd go with AAA cells. Being able to quickly replace the batteries is desirable, especially in an emergency situation.
Hope she makes a fast and full recovery!

More great stuff, y'awl! :tu:

Thank you Farmer, she is doing well.

Day 7
My fury intellibeam.
I like this light a lot, but for me it mainly gets carried in the colder weather as it lends itself better to the pockets of a big coat.

My trouble is i never show initiative, but that's only because no one has told me to.

Moving is fine with me. Hope nobody gets lost on the way.

Day 8

That little magnetic tail cap is handy. Had to do some fuse changes on Mrs. Robert's Jeep this evening.

The light lets you choose the source and even change at anytime.  It will also let you know when it changes from one to the other.

My flashlight carry while at the park - Mateminco CSF-04 on the keys, Acebeam Rider Rx v2.0 in the pocket and Wuben X3 Owl on the sling.  3 might be a little overkil, but then again I also had 3 SAKs on me as well.

Makes sense to me.

Day 8

Technically these are lanterns but they still light up pretty good.  We keep these in our bedrooms during an impending storm as during the rough ones we tend to loose power.  These have been working great for several years even for Ozark Trail.  My sister gifted them to me for Christmas several years ago.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

I am fine either way, and do respect the mod's decision to move as well.  :hatsoff:

But just being a devil advocate, if we were to keep it here for the duration of the challenge, maybe this too may appeal to fellow members whom are less frequent to the flashlight subforum?  :pok:

the e21a in 2000K is quite warm- the color temperature of a fire or candle. they are floody especially when paired with a floody optic however they will get pretty hot quickly on turbo and eat up batteries pretty quickly. that's why i'll generally use them in the lower settings or on candlelight mode- which is really pleasant.
