🔦 DAY 14 🔦

today it was the Reylight triple dawn with Cree XPL HI emitters in a 6000K color temp. despite the high temp this light still has nice color rendering. but it also provides cool white blinding light and tops out at around 3000 lm so it's pretty good for self-defense. it's also got a sapphire lens with a green glow ring underneath. really like this light and I removed the clip because it makes it easier to cigar grip.

here's a beamshot taken in pitch black that really shows the color rendering  :ahhh

That Manker bezel catches my eye because it looks like it could shred someone pretty bad.

it definitely would shred someone pretty bad because the protrusions on the bezel are sharp like little mini knives.

too bad about the Celtics tonight the Mavs really mopped the floor with them.  :twak:

Wow, that Reylight is pretty stinking bright.  I do like the color rendering too.

Just a glamour shot today.

Day 13
Continuing with my timeline, the next light I acquired was a Surefire G3,with an LED conversion.
That light is bright and has decent throw (trying to sound flashlighty) with fresh batteries.
I didn't get a pic of it since it's serving WML duty on my son's AR until he decides whether he's getting a Scout or Cloud wml. I'll save that pic for a later maybe.
In the mean time, here's my trusty L2

A sweep would have been nice, but hopefully they’ll win it in 5.

Day 14

RIP to this Olight i3E EOS, which served loyally as my keychain light for around a decade. Unfortunately, a battery corroded in it, and I lost the contact spring after I disassembled it to clean in the middle of the move. While I haven't thrown it out, I don't know that it's worth buying the spring to (hopefully) fix a $10 light. It served me well for a while, but there are definitely better lights available now for only a few bucks more. If you want something cheap and keychained sized that'll just take a AAA and truck on for years, it's a solid choice.
That's great piece of gear. :tu:  I know it may sound backwards, but if a piece of gear last me almost a decade long (which my AAA keychain certainly has too), I probably would have looked for exactly the same thing but with upgraded spec.

Though this is not the compact or brightest AA light out there, but I do enjoy the versatility it offers.   This Streamlight Protac 1L could either use a CR123 or a regular AA, making it a pretty versatile light.  The only drawback is the tailcap switch protruding from the tailcap, so it can't really tailstand unless it is 100% flat.  I fix that but using an "anti-loss" rubber band as a sleeve to help it stand, if needed.

Day 14
The great crossover
I'm in the Giants of June/Big Blade challenge as well, today's carry combines elements from both challenges.
I got this OPK from Derek Rausch back in '96,and had John Leth (who,I've been told, made sheaths for CRK when Chris Reeve was still in Durban,SA) make a couple sheaths for me,1 of which had a loop for my Minimaglite (I couldn't get a pocket clip for it back then, and found pocket carrying it cumbersome).
I EDC'd this knife and Minimaglite for a number of years in this configuration.

Day 14

(Image removed from quote.)

Princeton Tec AMP 1L 2AAA light.   Princeton Tec used to be a pretty prolific flashlight makers, not so in recent years.  I got this sometime last year, mostly for its size and its capability to fully submerge as a snorkeling light.

What strikes me as an interesting feature is them putting a bottle opener at the end of the flashlight...I just can't imagine someone so desperate for a drink right after a night swim, that they will need it right there and then.
Princeton Tec was very popular for a while.  I think they still are popular with divers, snorkeling and firefighters, because they are some of the best for those purposes.  Their headlamps I think are still pretty popular.

One thing I think stopped their popularity from growing is that they stuck with regular AA and AAA batteries instead of expanding into the lithium rechargeable and the high outputs they give.

But I don’t blame them for sticking at being one of the best in their niche market.

Day 15
My keychain lantern - Mateminco CSF-06

This is great if you need to light up a small room (or tent).  The ramping allows you to control just how much light you need.  It is also good for making sure you are seen at night or in an emergency, because it has different colors and strobes.

🔦 DAY 15 🔦

i'm finally testing negative for covid  :ahhh
still taking it easy this weekend so bella and i have been doing some napping today and enjoying the candlelight mode on this hanklight DT8 with e21a emitters in 1800K. the somewhat aggressive flickering reminds me of the way the oil lanterns would flicker on my sailboat during breezy nights.

Day 15

Cheapo blacklight I got from Amazon to test/charge gitd gear. My stepdaughter liked these beads, and I thought they might be handy to put on keychains, lanyards, etc. Interesting that the phone camera catches the light as blue at first, then adjusts to purple after a second.

Day 11

This Pelican sits by my bed.  Originally led,  I upgraded with a much brighter led module.  I also added a coated glass lens, a Kroll switch module, and a gitd switch boot.

Day 12

This is my first Surefire.  I bought it at cheaper than dirt 13 or more years ago.  Originally it was incan.  I had it mounted to a rifle for years, then upgraded.  This sat for a while, then I dropped in a led module, added a chicom head with a coated glass lens and SS lens ring.  I also dropped a mclicky switch and gitd boot.  It now sees a good amount of pocket time.

Day 13

I bought this fairly recently,  on ebay for $5 - $10.  Originally  incan, I swapped in a LF led module.   Very bright, and a great thrower.  It also had the old school push for momentary twist for on tailswitch, and I bought a forward clicky replacement switch from streamlight. A fun flashlight.

That's true.  Though I see diving light offerings from different brands from time to time, but when it comes to reliable brand-name flashlight, they are the one of the few that's come to mind.

Thank you!  I was a flashaholic and love modding incan lights into led lights, before the led has became popular.  So flashlight collecting comes with the territory.  :D

Day 16

Thanks to Sos24's suggestion, I was able to get a hold of Fraz Lab QTC light.  Such a robust little light, and probably one of the most bomb proof light out there since there is virtually almost no electronics.

So basically this Fraz lab light is a direct drive light with a variable resistor to control the brightness, if you tighten the head/body, the light gets brighter, or vice versa.

I left the flashlight scene for many years, and a lot has happened in between.  One being QTC tech used in the flashlight industry.  Though I suspect it never fully caught on, due to how difficult it was to fully implement it into the lights.  But the idea of using a resistor/material where mechanical compression could lead to different degree of conductivity is pretty intriguing.

Day 16

Found another one of these Harbor Freight lights, along with an old glowstick (flashlight adjacent) in my nightstand. Past me made sure I was well prepared in case the power went out at night, even if present me forgot about him. I wonder if the glowstick would still work, it's gotta be at least 15 years old, probably 20.

Fraz labs are definitely tough lights, although they have thinned down the bulk some since I’ve been following them.

Here is a picture of one of my older Fraz Lab along with another QTC light, the Peak LED Solutions Eiger.
