Day 2

This is my Streamlight 2L-X that I carry in the larger Leatherman pouch  on my warbelt.  I use this belt quite often when I am working outside.

That Manker striker is quite the thrower, especially for a 14500!

Day 2
An HDS Rotary.  This is probably my favorite flashlight and most used flashlight.  It is a little heavy for what some may consider edc and it isn’t as bright as many people want nowadays.  But it is just such a sweet and reliable light.

Solidline ST4UV
Designed by LedLenser. Up to 180 lumens, UV mode, two AAA batteries. Slips easily in a pen slot. Feels very well made. I wish the clip was reversible, but nobody's perfect.

I really like Malkoff lights.  I have an MDC with the HA LMH Rechargeable head.  It is well-built, reliable and Made in USA.

I am actually thinking of getting one of his heads to upgrade my old incandescent Surefire E2D.
(Image removed from quote.)

I have the same head as yours on a 18650 lumens factory body.

The lumens are not in the thousands but I find that not important as I can see perfectly well with them, and being potted they are bomb proof.

I have seen videos where his bodyguard light was thrown off the roof of a house onto concrete and I think I even saw one where it was dropped from a helicopter and it still worked.
If you need a mission critical light I don’t think you can beat malkoff
My trouble is i never show initiative, but that's only because no one has told me to.

thanks Explorer  :tu:
this was my first LED light, been a constant companion, did a few low light shooting courses with it [switched between 2 others, which i'll show here later]

Day 2
so,my first good light was this 4D Maglight, back in 92 or 93. it was a gift from my mother when i joined the neighbourhood watch patrol. i planned to give it new light  :D and get 1 of those LED drop-ins but never get around to it
it's a dinosaur,as my son said earlier today [his edc is a Surefire EDC L something and a Streamlight microstream] but let's see you swing for the bleachers with 1 of the current handhelds

Day 3

Today I carried a Pelican M6.  Modded with a Kroll switch brass module, and a $10 Chi-com 3 mode LED module.  Light modes are High-Medium-Low, and decently bright, but not as bright as I expected.   Also the beam is somewhat ringy.  I have three $13 led modules (chi-com as well) in other lights, that are quite bright,  with no rings.

Day 3

Generic Harbor Freight promo light. Probably one of their "spend X, get a free Y" promos, since I can't imagine paying for it. It's honestly better than I expected. No focus, but it's brighter than I thought it'd be. When we moved, we basically wanted a flashlight or two in every room, and it was certainly good enough for that.

Goes to show you how much flashlights have improved. When I was a kid (a lot more recently than many of you) a light this size would throw enough light to read a restaurant menu (if you squinted real hard, get hot) and you'd have to replace the batteries and/or bulb monthly if you used it regularly. Now, they give 'em away for free, and they're actually usable.

I think you were referring, possibly indirectly, to Mag-Lites. It's a shame Mag Instrument didn't do too good a job of adapting to a changing market.

🔦 DAY 03 🔦

today carried a red Reylight Rook with nichia 519a emitters in 4000K and my red FX. these will both fit nicely in the coin pocket of my jeans. I'm a big fan of the Rook it's a 18350 battery and puts out a nice warm floody beam that tops out at about 1800 lumens- respectably bright for its pocketable size.

awlso has a nice low moonlight mode setting

Day 2 (make up)

This is embarrassing...day 2 and I am already doing the catchup.  Little guy will start applying for a new school come this fall, and am frantically trying my best to make the process as smooth as possible. :ahhh

Anyhow, back to the challenge, here in hand is a Sofirn SP10 Pro AA, I remembered getting this probably sometime last year, and still recommend it since it is probably one of the very few lights(if not only) that works with regular AA battery and runs Anduril 2.0 software.

I have my doubts in Anduril software before laying my hands on a flashlight that utilize it, it looks unnecessarily complicated.  But turns out it is pleasantly simple, if I view it just as a regular flashlight with variable output (just one press to turn on, then press and hold to vary the output level)

Day 3

SF A2 and its original beamshot

SF A2 after applying D-C-fix (a window privacy self adhesive vinyl cover) and the new beamshot, the camera may have picked up some new artifacts, but in real life it is somewhat smooth and even.

For the longest time, the original SF A2 incan light was one of my favorite lights when it first came out.  I liked it so much that I went ahead and modded it with brighter Nichia 5mm leds, but that was a long time ago...

Now the newer SF A2 is a different light, with a much shorter body and better led tech.  SF lights are many things, but not all of them would have the best beam shot without artifacts.

Luckily I pick up this flashlight 'trick' from Reddit, where you could apply a small batch of DC fix in front of the lens and it will smooth out most majority of the artifacts.  IIRC, the light may lose about 10% of the output in exchange for a better beamshot, and for my urban use (or sometimes white wall hunting), I think that's an okay price to pay.  But I would not recommend the DC fix trick if it is a hotrod flashlight with really high output.

Day 1

I got a lot of use out of my Olight today but failed to capture any action shots.

(Image removed from quote.)
That's a nice compact light.  I've been eyeing Olight lights for the longest time, but the proprietary charging cable/method keep me at bay.

Thanks
Same here now. I still feel the urge but once something picks up it’s first inevitable scar the pressures off and you can just enjoy them.

They are definitely well made, and made to be used hard :tu:

Day 2
Little malkoff MDC head on a lumens factory body and tail cap.

This little light is a favourite and sees lots of use. I think malkoff have updated it as this one is an older model but until this one fails (i think I will fail first) i am holding off on replacing it.

Malkoff is another brand I love to try out, especially if I could play SF lego with it.  I think it will no doubt breath new life into older  SF bodies.  I particularly like how they pot their electronics within the head(I sure hope they are still doing that), making it really impervious to moisture and drop.

late start, but better late than never, right?  :D

my edc light is a Surefire L2 Lumamax from way back when,it's served me well, chipped lens and all [i need to send it in to be repaired, been chipped for too long, and i don't know how that happened].
my "backup" is a Fenix E01,which is carried in an Ostrich-skin pouch i cobbled up,to carry my edc SAK [Deluxe Tinker]

Love seeing well loved gears pix, the Ostrich-skin pouch does steal the limelight of the post. 😘

HDS has been around for such long time, and I remembered admiring how nicely distributed are the beamshots from their lights.  Even till today, I dare say it probably still has one of the best balanced beamshot in the industry.

Wow, 180lm of UV light!  It's gonna pick up all the interesting details where many UV lights may not be able to.

Neat, I remembered exchanging posts about the M6 in another challenge.  I'd recommend having a look into the DC fix film, if you are interested to remove those beamshot 'rings'.  For reference, please see my last post.

Looks like I’m not getting around to taking pics for this challenge.  Liking the different torches, I think I might need to spend some time in the flashlight forum.

I might post a few here later just to join in the fun.

I picked it up from this eBay seller.  It stops my Minichamp from getting too scratched up.

That's a nice compact light.  I've been eyeing Olight lights for the longest time, but the proprietary charging cable/method keep me at bay.

I was apprehensive about it at first but so far so good.  We have an olight in both our vehicles as well so there's usually a charging cable available should we need it.

Day 3

Time to recharge the imini.  I don't find it as inconvenient to remove from the carabiner to recharge, as I was concerned about.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.
